Yeah, it’s typically those mid priced guys who get the shaft. Better to sign a one year deal at a bargain than to miss out on a job, and hope next year has more opportunity. The top paid guys still get paid. Miller might not get this kind of deal on the open market, but rarely do players decide to test free agency and then sign with their current club at the end.

Stars are always going to get paid and everyone else gets shafted

Feel bad for the 4th liners. They score 20 points a year while 1st liners score 80 plus but the 1st liners are getting paid 10 times the amount. Stars are the attraction but come on man.

If Miller is the best player on the team, the team should be willing to compensate him accordingly. You want to make it flat across the years? Sure, makes a buyout near the end more expensive. I’m just playing devils advocate to Nighthawks proposal of 5 years…

If it’s 5 years the AAV goes way up.

- 1970vintage

Ya I get the AAV and buyout. But just seeing those next four years being so close to what McD gets paid makes you go

Only one team can offer Miller an 8 year deal. On the open market it’s 7 max, so a 5-6 year deal isn’t out of the question. Miller is a competitor and although I’m sure he wants to get paid he also wants to win.

McDavid signed his contract 5 years ago.

With today's new cap hit McDavid at his original signed rate of 16.67% would be 13.752 AAV.

If that makes you feel better?

Still a great deal for McD at that.
And no doesn't make me fell any better giving Miller 500k less than that over the next 4 years.

Oh Eklund...
Klingberg Could End up With Blues.
There is a scenario unfolding here that could land Klingberg with the Blues. If St Louis trades for Matthew Tkachuk, they will be moving a key D-man in the deal to Calgary…possibly Krug. Should the happen I am told the Blues could enter the Klingberg sweeps

Flames have been rumoured to have already turned down Krug, 1st, and Kyrou for Tkachuk.

Why would they want Krug when they have Hanifan and Kylington.

Devils All-in on Tkachuk.
The one player the Devils want to keep is Bratt. Other players however that I am told have been discussed are Holt, Severson, Foote, Johnsson, and the Devils 2023 first round pick.

NJ going to give up all their prized possessions for Tkachuk and not Miller

Some team sooner or later is going to pay a 1st to Arizona or Seattle to take a bad contract.

That rumour seems bogus. There are some in St. Louis saying Kyrou, Thomas and Parayko are all on the untouchable list. Treliving would be shot if he turned down Kyrou, Krug and a first.

Martin Kaut of the Avalanche former 1st round pick. Can't get out of purgatory.
AHL 163GP 42G 49A 91PTs 0.56PPG
NHL 20 2G 1A 3PTs 0.15PPG

He will be 23 years old start of next season.

He has gone from .41 PPG as an 18 year old in the AHL to .67 as a 22 year old in the AHL.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to Klimovich but in Kaut's defence, a lot of other players drafted around him suck also.

Seems a bit made up. Cgy doesn't need Krug. Kyrou scored at near same pace as Turtle.

Doesn't make a lot of sense for STL to pay 3 RHD 6M plus per season.

Krug-Faulk was one of the better D pairings in the league till Krug got hurt.

Stl did just extend Thomas for 8 years and not Kyrou though.

Ya nothing wrong with that number for what you are getting in Nino. Looks like the music has stopped and players are trying to sit in a limited number of seats.

Ek has Col looking at Rodriguez. Maybe moving on from Kadri. Not willing to pay the prize to move out money. The suitors for Kadri seem to be shrinking also. No wonder Millers agent now saying a deal is more possible

As the odds stand, 95 points isn't winning the division.
- carsonagenic

That’s why I said “on the bubble”. I think Canucks are likely in the same range, 95-97 points.

Miller 29
Tkachuk 24

Calgary has room for cap dumps now.
