Since Carol wrote a bunch about the flames in this one, also wanted to throw this out there.

I don't think the flames will be in that bad of shape. Losing JG and MT sucks no doubt, but they will get a pretty hefty package imho for Tkachuck. I think there will be enough teams in it for a 24 year old 100 point scorer. And it's not like they don't have some guys that can step up for scoring - Mangiopane and Dube look good, although starting to wonder if Dube is one 'those guys' from 2018 world juniors.

Just saying I don't think it's as disasterous as it looks on the surface. Their hand is forced so they'll make a deal and I think they'll get a lot ... a lot more than we'll get for Miller, if we get anything. The nucks lost Marky, Tanev, Toffoli for nothing. Maybe all that doesn't add up to a Gaudreau for nothing, but it's close.

I doubt Krug, an american player playing on a playoff team in STL is waiving to go play in Canada.


But I agree that the Flames should be trying to get Kyrou in the package, getting him and signing Kadri would have them in the playoffs again with Sutter coaching.

Defense and goaltending is still tops in the division. Lindholm, Backund still two good C’s. There are still a few UFA’s they could probably sign, plus as you say, the return for Matthew will be decent (and will have to include high salary player). They’ll still be in the mix for the playoffs.

No, not directed at you. It was a general “we hate [name any “stats” guy]” because the models are stupid and are completely wrong, and then in the next breath talk about how to fix the exact thing that the model says needs fixing.
