The kids starring & taking all of his TOI away?

He has no reason. Miller is 29. He is just complaining again

Management says they want to get younger and would be looking at under 26 year old additions.
The team then adds 1-26 and 2-7 year Old free agents.

Seriously? We're resigning a 30 year old Miller to a 6-8 year contract?? His best season was last year and he's due for a drop off. At best he'll hit 60-75 points which is fine for this year at least, but we sure aren't going to make the playoffs, especially with Edmonton improving, LA having made the playoffs and their kids being a year older and Anaheim is pushing. There's no guarantee we'll slide into the 3rd spot even IF Calgary sucks this year.

I get Messier vibes from Miller, if we resign him I have a feeling it's going to be 1997 all over again, and god help the team then.

Why would that be his best possible outcome, this acrually makes zero sense, he certainly will drop off atbsome point but hes literally playing his best hockeybthe last three years and theres no reason to think at 29 he will drop 20-30 points.

He’s shown here every year he’s getting better. No reason the leap that ALL older players decline significantly. He’s going on 30 & many players have shown longevity at that age & beyond. He hasn’t a ton of wear & tear on him either. Again I can see 3 very good years left in him & last 3 he won’t disappear. 6/8-8.5m be ideal. 5/9m has been suggested & that’s cool if term is ok for him. Idk about that so my offer is more but less AAV if that’s what it takes.

I agree. The last half of amy contract with him would be declining years. Its why its not a bad idea to trade him at all, but this idea he isnt going to perform next year goes against everything that reality is showing us.

Yes I agree but I’m not saying his final years he’ll drop off like some think he will. The 6th year yes.

In 15 seasons Henrik Sedin hit 100 points once (112). His next highest total was 94, the following year (2011) and all the way down to 81 the following year.

It is highly likely that 99 points will be JT’s career high in a season. That doesn’t mean he’s going to Lui things up, but 80 points would still be a great season for him.

This management says a lot of things. Rutherford said the team around Demko wasn’t good enough and yet everyone is back.

If they’ll add a 27 year old winger then let’s just yolo it and trade for that 28 year old dman in Florida.

I could care less if he stays or goes. If he stays hopefully it's on a team friendly deal, which is unlikely.

They say they want younger players to fit in with the core, not sure how they make that happen with the contracts coming up.

- VanHockeyGuy

Canucks right now with "projected" roster are I believe it was the 6th or 8th youngest team in the league.

Or “let’s talk about when the season is over, I’m focused on this year now.”

They have both the GM and the Pres of hockey ops on record saying JT is their “best player”.

Take the Oilers at that rate, and they obviously haven't adjusted the Flames

I completely understand that players should get as much money as possible but there are so many teams that can't make moves because they have no cap. Right now it looks like a few teams have space but most of them have an RFA that's due a hefty amount.

Cap space has always been key but contracts have also gotten way out of hand.

There are a few free agents out there like Nino and Rodriguez that after the seasons they had probably deserve in the 4M range and right now might be settling for 2M.

I doubt anyone is going to pay Motte 2M a year right now. He might be lucky to get 1.2.

I don’t think the Flames will be as bad as you think. They still have one of the better D and goalie groups. Sutter will have them playing Sutter hockey. I bet they eek out 95 points, on the bubble.

Making 500k less than McD over the last 4 remaining years of McD's current deal...
I know its the avg salary that counts over the contract, but come on.

Yeah, it’s typically those mid priced guys who get the shaft. Better to sign a one year deal at a bargain than to miss out on a job, and hope next year has more opportunity. The top paid guys still get paid. Miller might not get this kind of deal on the open market, but rarely do players decide to test free agency and then sign with their current club at the end.

From Senior Player Agent Allan Walsh.

Allan Walsh - Players in Canada can set up a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA) and limit their tax liability to a flat 20%. With sound tax advisors, a NHL player can actually pay the same or less tax in Canada than he will Florida or Vegas.

If Miller is the best player on the team, the team should be willing to compensate him accordingly. You want to make it flat across the years? Sure, makes a buyout near the end more expensive. I’m just playing devils advocate to Nighthawks proposal of 5 years…

If it’s 5 years the AAV goes way up.
