Nice trade, as Huby (UFA '23) and Weegar (or alternatives) can be flipped as well.

Wtf, hubs is better than thachuk by himself.

Huberdeau is going on 30 and only has one more year of term. The player swap might be somewhat lateral right now but it’s a smart exchange to trade out an aging star wing with no term for a young star wing now locked up for his prime.

Nah they can flip them at the deadline and stock up. Hubs will be at the top of the deadline list for sure.

Agreed but Weegar is a really nice player too, the pick doesn’t matter and who knows about a prospect, but that’s a real good return for a guy everyone knew had to be traded

Still, seeing him signing 8x$9.5M, Florida's tax adv. is once again obvious.

Also going on 30 and only one year of term. Barkov and Ekblad are only 26. Their window is still wide open, they can’t let the supporting cast age out around them. I bet both Huberdeau and Weegar’s next contracts will be pretty suspect

Can spin it however you’d like, they still traded away a player that was #2 in points last year. Weegar is no slacker either. I understand they are ufa next summer but….that’s next summer. You have a team pushing for the cup and you make this trade seems desperate.

The 1st is a top10-protected '25... (FLA has no own '23/'24), and CGY sends back a same-year 4th.

And the trade was for the guy who was #8 in points and they both scored at the exact same rate at even strength. They’re pretty darn comparable production wise.

Again, Barkov and Ekblad are 26. If you’re Florida and you say no to this trade you’re going all in on next year and then you either let your star wing and a key supporting cast member walk or you lock them up on suspect contracts. Either way, you’re hamstringing the second half of your two franchise cornerstones’ Cup window.

I see this trade as trading Weegar, a 1st, and a prospect to reset the clock on Huberdeau for the rest of Barkov and Ekblad’s prime. I think that’s a good trade.

And keep in mind that Huby and Weegar were pretty no-shows this playoffs...

If Florida thought neither guy was going to resign or at least go to UFA market, they are geniuses. They turned two potential losses for nothing into a young stud winger. It's a risk for them, but the alternative was losing two key players for nothing next season with no 1st in 2024. This keeps them competitive and will free up some space next year when Yandle's dead cap comes off the books.

They really messed up signing Bob. If they didnt have his $10M, they could have signed another impactful player.

They also have almost 6m owed to buyouts this year.

I think they knew they can’t afford to keep both players on their next contracts so I’d say it’s a good trade for Florida. They are absolutely burning through draft picks. Their window is now. Go to town.

To put in perspective: What's your guess for Larkin? 8 point something for 8 years?

How is FLA getting under the cap now? 3.375 Over with a 22 man roster. Only 8 players make more than that and pretty sure 6 of them are not going anywhere, so it comes down to hoping for a miracle and someone takes Bob or moving Horny which will cost them even more picks lol

He's back midseason so that doesn't help all that much(have to have the space to activate him then) and they still have to add 800K or more for a 23rd player.(E. Staal?)

Dk brought up we potentially may be making another trade following the Kapanen resigning. Or potentially a Zucker buyout. If that happened maybe we would sign Stastny or Kessel cheap. I know Stastny said he doesn't care about money and wants to go to a team who has a chance to make it to the cup.

Maybe a potential buyout? The second window is coming up. Correction that would only get them to break even. They definitely need to make a few trades and a buyout. Maybe a buyout of Hornqvist and a Sam Bennett trade? Idk if anyone would take Bobrovsky's contract for a pick. Especially since they don't have a 1st round pick for years!

So that cancels out the Pens. Especially with Sullivan still driving the 91 town and country.

Anyone here think we could roll these lines for the bottom 2?

A) I would give it a go.

B) Kapanen is playing with Malkin.

Therefore A+B= Never going to happen.
