Ironic part is, I think the Sabres got more for Eichel then Calgary will ultimately end up with when the dust settles.
Unless you think there is a remote chance Huberdeau or Weegar resigns. - Pegullaville
WoW, one of those players you could see playing his whole career with your team. Barky and Hubie, the dynamic duo and all that...
Gonna have to follow Calgary more this season, wonder how long it’ll take for his tan to fade. I wonder how he’s taking the news.... I wonder what Barkov thinks.
Holy poop, they traded Huberdeau
He may very well end up a Hab, if they have cap room to sign him next summer. |

And other than Colorado, played Tampa better than any team I’ve seen in 3 years.
Whomever won that series was going to the cup. - Pegullaville
FL would’ve beaten the Leafs, though...
Maybe not, but at least would’ve been a hell of a fun series to watch. |

Eichel should get more, but I don't think he did. A Huberdeau deadline deal would be worth a ton. - Lunaion
As a pending UFA? What is a ton?
A late first and what else?
He's going to be 30 when he needs to sign an extension, and he does not play a remotely physical game, or much defense.
I'm very dubious on a so-called massive deadline return for Huberdeau. |

Totally agree with the below, as contract status and age are massively important when assessing players and trades.
I love Weegar, but he's not a first pair defender on a potential cup winning team to me.
Ideally, he's the anchor of the 2nd pair.
Oh, he's also about to get paid.
Assuming either or both garner massive returns if Calgary trades them feels more than a bit presumptive.
FLA get 8 full years of M Tkachuk's prime. He adds a missing cycle element to FLA's elite offense and his defensive impact will make up for Weegar leaving. They move off of a one way winger whose next contract will age badly and a good D whose skating got exposed 2x vs TBL.

And another signing for under 10m, not a bad contract 9.5m for Tkachuk. |

Tampa lost to Columbus because Vasy was dreadful. They then went to theee straight cups winning two because Vasy played like the best goalie in the world.
Tampa’s style didn’t change at all’s - Pegullaville
A) Yes and no.
B) wrong, completely wrong.
Vasy was ok, not great. Tampa's run and gun style of 0lay, cheating for offensive opportunities and not locking it down defensively was THE primary reason they lost.
Cooper spent a ton of time, energy and practice e drilling the team on playing a defensive 1st style of play, then run and gun when the opportunity presents itself. They learned how fo lock it down and be defensively solid. They in fact did change their style of play. |

That’s a motherload for Tkachuck - lulags
2 rentals, a first rd pick down the road and a 3rd rd prospect
Tkachuk is 4 years younger then Huberdeau
IMO it keeps the panthers window open for a while
and the flames trade off the rentals for futures
plus the panthers now have some more grit in their top 6 for the playoffs |

I love this trade for the Cats. That contract should age pretty nicely...as with most 8 year contracts, maybe the last year or two could see decline in value. He brings some nice grit up front and obviously scoring.
Love Hubbie, but man CGY 's return isn't as rosy as it st appears. Weegar is over-rated defensively and his offense production is enhanced being on that team IMO. He was being offered up for trade anyway...If he gets big money it won't be the smartest move. |

With the extension think Florida is still 4m over the cap. Still gonna have to move someone. But it's a good trade for them. |

Panthers are about $3.4m over the $82.5 Cap Ceiling, have no 1st rd and only 2 2nd rounders over the next 3 years and a bit weak on D now.
Duclair, Gudas ($5.5m)
For
Murray, Pilut, '23-2nd ($1.5m) [throw a '23-3rd if necessary]

That buys them half the season to get under the cap, gonna have to do something when Duclair is ready to return.
I think they still need to make another 750k of room even after Duclair put on IR.

Flip Huberdeau if he doesn’t want to extend. The flames definitely cashed in nicely.
I feel for the flames. I wonder what is wrong with the organization.
Johnny hockey was given a bag …… he said no.
Now baby chunker is in Florida after saying he won’t resign. |
