Flip Huberdeau if he doesn’t want to extend. The flames definitely cashed in nicely.
I feel for the flames. I wonder what is wrong with the organization.

Johnny Hockey wanted to come back east. It wasn't about the money. It was about family. |

calgary probably flips both players either before the season or at the deadline IMO - homiedclown
The above is what they should do, but that is a very big assumption based on their GM and coach.
Many of their fans think they're going to try and sign both players to long term extensions. |

That buys them half the season to get under the cap, gonna have to do something when Duclair is ready to return.
I think they still need to make another 750k of room even after Duclair put on IR. - Ratsreign

they overpay Blake Coleman to be a cup contender 12 months ago, and now they are on the edge of a rebuild |

At first I thought that was a bad trade for Florida. Then looking at both Huberdeau and Weegar’s contract status, age, etc, I think it’s a good trade for the Panthers. They get a different type of player that they certainly need to compete for a cup.
For the Flames if they flip Huberdeau at the deadline they should get at least another 1st and a prospect. For Weegar a 2nd plus a prospect.
Calgary should rebuild, if they sign Huberdeau long term that contract would turn ugly after year 4 or 5.
All in all it looks good for the Panthers and if Calgary rebuilds and moves them and get more picks then it’s a good trade for them as well.
Comparing this trade to the Eichel trade is completely pointless btw. Eichel’s injury and the surgery issue was a huge roadblock. |

They also traded their 2022 1st round pick among other things for Toffoli. |

We can't know how well they did. If they extend Huberdau for 5 or 6 years they will have done ok. Flipping him won't bring enough value back. They needed to get Lundell in this deal. |

Jonathan Huberdeau spent 10 years in Miami
zero chance he decides to spend the next 6 years in Calgary after that

they got immense value for two guys who were likely not re-signing there. they gaudreau'd gaudreau before gaudreau could gaudreau them.

A no move clause was in Jonathan Huberdeau’s contract until June 30th this year. A no trade clause (8 teams) kicked in on July First. Panthers took advantage of the situation obviously. Huberdeau will be UFA on July First 2023 if he doesn’t sign an extension with the Flames.

The odds-on favourite NHL team to land Patrick Kane in a trade?
Sportsbetting.ag has the Oilers edging out Colorado and the New York Rangers in bringing in the future Hall of Fame winger from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Betonline reports the same, saying: “After 15 years and three Stanley Cup Trophies with the Chicago Blackhawks, will we see the Blackhawks trade Patrick Kane? If Wayne Gretzky and Joe Montana can get traded, anyone can! Below are the odds of which team Kane gets traded to with the Oilers and Avalanche at the top and his hometown Sabres seventh on the list:
Oilers +300 (3/1)
Avalanche +350 (7/2)
Rangers +400 (4/1)
Kings +500 (5/1)
Lightning +550 (11/2)
Leafs +600 (6/1)
Sabres +750 (15/2)” |

Colorado, NYR, LA in that order for this coming season. I don’t see him playing in Canada.
