I've been watching "The Captain" about Jeter on ESPN. I found some similarities between Derek and Dahlin. Very high pick, he had early struggles, really couldn't get out of his own way (think he had 56 errors his first minor league season), people in and outside the organization doubting him, him doubting himself (lacked much confidence that he could be a MLB player and wanted to give his signing bonus back to the team), etc.

After SS Tony Fernandez broke his arm in pre-season in what ended up being Jeter's rookie year, there was a proposed trade that would've sent Mariano Rivera to Seattle for SS Felix Fermin, and they were going to send Jeter down to the minors.

Imagine.

That would have halted that dynasty before it even started.

i have also only ever been to detriot for a concert.. but i don't really think there is much there to do. you can drive another 4 hours to the UP or traverse city.
