They are spending about 56m this year on the NHL roster. If that's your budget, cap flexibility doesn't actually exist. 2 straight years they needed dead contract help to meet the rules and save real money.

They also got completely dominated in that first round series. Ingram stopped 49/51 the one game. He wasn’t particularly great in the others as you mentioned, they were also bleeding shots and quality scoring chances against that entire series

Well, Montreal made the Final a few years ago, so anything's possible. Get a goalie to catch lightning in a bottle and you're off.
