Cozens is a great candidate to give a long-term deal if you believe he's the next Couturier. The Sabres may have a chance to buy the kind of value contract they never seem to get due to their constant bridge deals. The Flyers got some great, cheap years from Couts

He brings several elements the rest of them don't. Change of pace guy who positively impacts the team on the ice. If you're going to be a black hole on offense, make sure it's for both teams and apply appropriately.

Yeah you only do it if you believe the Couturier comps that are floating out there. I'm not sold on Cozens to the level that some are, I'm just saying the Sabres need to get ahead of the pay days at some point.

The team is fond of the bridge deals that usually end up in paying full market value on the next deal, or they sell players before they get too expensive. They're not good at identifying long-term value contracts
