It's not just a KA thing - Botterill opted for a bridge with Reinhart as well.

My point is the Sabres really never have value contracts for guys who aren't in their RFA years. I can't think of the last good value contract they had - even going back 10-15+ years I don't know

- Hank Balling

KA just bought a UFA year on VO (signing him as RFA). Ignoring Eichel, who was the last?

I was thinking they bought 1 on McCabe, but looking at it, I don't think they did. I think that takes us back to Risto.

Best thing about the Olofsson contract is if JJ or Quinn are ready to take the step, it's a very easy contract to move, especially if they retained.

He didn't get ahead with Rhino or Ullmark, and Tage is the next one, if he got a decent contract done this year with Tage would be getting ahead. Getting into Rhino territory if you don't IMO

How would you feel if Tage turned into Okposo..but at 8 x $7m and producing 40 - 45 pts?

We have all female doged for years about Kyle's value, sans last year. It would be great to role into 8 more years of that.

Tage's situation is pretty unique...producing 12 and 14 pts prior to busting out at 68.
It would be different if he had shown progressive growth like 28, 39, 55 ... then it would be warranted to jump on a long term contract.

If he gets to 80 pts next season, I'd gladly pay him $8.5m+ then.

I don't think Okposo is a good comparison. You are paid based on your projected worth. Okposo was a guy that was already not a great skater and was leaving his peak years. We all knew it was an overpayment at the time and that he would never be a big scorer. Tallness might not be able to replicate what he did last year but I like his chances far more than I liked giving Okposo that deal.

I think this probably ends with a shorter term deal, 3-4 years Player-friendly term, less risk for the team

Krebs is already better than Mittelstadt.

Mittelstadt Olofsson Portillo and Florida 1st should’ve been traded for Debrinicat.

I disagree on Krebs and Mitts, They're quite the same. But Krebs has not even played 100 games yet where Mitts has played nearly 200

From Eklund's Blog today.

"Since salary cap space now is so valuable, the price of making salary cap-clearing moves has gone up considerable. Teams want first-round picks, top prospects or quality players, to help a team carve out salary cap room."

Yet Adams took on Bishop's salary for basically nothing

Said a decent contract which if he did it this year would be a 4 or 5 yr deal, never said anything about 8yrs.

Now it's so valuable, then it wasn't as valuable. When a guy like Kadri is on the board right now after the draft, I think that changes things.

Rally tough to bad on KA right now for this kind of move.

moving a player to LTIR is a whole lot simpler than acquiring an active, bloated contract that no one wants in the lineup or on the books for x years.

Kevo asked for a first from Philly. I didn't want JVR here for less.

Would you have taken Bjorkstrand for a couple mid round picks?

sure, why not. Not really sure where you put him. Appears average wingers are a dime a dozen these days.

What I actually want is for a desperate team to undersell us a top 6 all situations center for Mittelstadt.

I think if Mitts is healthy he is much better than Krebs this year.

It would be a great thing for everyone is Mittelstadt is better than Krebs this year by a good margin.

More specifically, I think he asked for their first. Between his crappy moves over the last few years and the promise that this was going to be a quick rebuild, Fletcher really backed himself into a corner.

Oettinger ($5M) and Robertson ($8M) might cost the Stars a combined $13M, and they currently have $11M in cap space.

He'd be the 4th best Sabre based on that metric.
