Huberdeau would be a humongous trade deadline chip if Flames falter at all. But I think we resign him. If Treliving doesnt think he can resign, he may just flip Huberdeau, maybe Jersey values Huberdeau as much or more as Tkachuk? - Kevin R
He either waived or didn't have Calgary on his no trade list
after the last few weeks I highly doubt they do this deal without at least discussing a deal |

Yeah, and we're still 40 goals and 100 points short. Which is no-playoffs zone. - redseerpf
Hockey isn't math, but subtract 40 goals from the Flames' total last year and assume they don't replace that with anything. They still have the third most goals and best goal differential in the division.

You can't be serious...this roster is 100% a playoff team. Have you seen the division? And they aren't done IMO
They also improved the D quite a bit - flashfire
If Monahan doesn't get back to at least 25 goals, their forward ranks are very shallow and they'll have trouble scoring.
Also, regarding the division, Oilers and Kings are locks, Vancouver and Vegas will likely battle for the 3rd spot. Seattle, we don't know, but they could surprise. That leaves CGY in a wild card spot against the Central teams (COL, MIN, NAS, STL, DAL). Good luck! |

Bennett ever play on line w/Tkachuk up there?
Sam is gonna miss Hubie - Ratsreign
Bennett kind of got screwed over/screwed himself over at every opportunity. I don't think he ever spent more than a week on the top line.

You got it my friend! Lassi Thomson is what Troy Mann, the HC in Belleville....called him overbaked for the NHL....and that JBD will be in the same boat come next summer!

Shoulders are hard to recover from too....I remember Vinny Lecavalier telling me it took him 2 years for his shoulder to feel like it did prior to the injury! - Kevin Francis
They announced a couple weeks ago, he’s ahead of schedule and they think he’ll be ready for the start of the season. |

Kings got better, Vancouver will be better, Seattle too, Knights will have a full year of Eichel, just like that, we might be 4th or 5th in the division. |

There’s no way the Flames don’t finish top 2 in the Pacific. Vezina goaltending, great defence, additions of Pelletier and Mangiapani getting top line minutes and more pp time.
I would love to see a rebuild, but don’t believe ownership will allow one. |

How many of those teams have 5 top 4 d-men, arguably 4 top 2 d-men and Markstrom?

Hey, i'm not cheering for the flames to fail, we might be very good, I actually hope so.
I'd just absolutely hate to end up the season with a 2nd place Pacific spot as if it meant anything, then out in the 2nd round of the playoffs again and Hubs+Weegar gone as ufa. It would kill this franchise. |

Why do you keep saying it would kill the franchise. 2nd round of the playoffs is a successful season, and the best way to rebuild is to be really bad for a few years. They won't lose them for nothing because they came with a first and a decent prospect. It's a win no matter how you spin it. Tkachuk was traded for at least one more season of being a good team AND a pick and a prospect. |

Thanks Trevor.
Tkachuk is 24 years old and has committed to Florida for 8 years.
Huberdeau is 29 and Weeger is 28. Both are UFAS after this year and it seems, there have been no extensions agreed to for either player.
The first round pick is conditional but a huge positive regardless.
The Flames brass are familiar with the 21 year old Cole Schwinlt.
The success or failure of this trade will depend on the Flames ability to maneuver contract extensions, a process that will be made a little more difficult due to their respective ages, but shorter terms at competitive money can handle that.
The fact that Huberdeau and Weeger are both Canadian and moving to a Canadian team should help.
It is not a slam dunk as many seem to think, but under the circumstances one could argue for either side as winners.
I have been a critic of Treliving but like my grandma use to say " give credit where credit is due."

Huberdeau at 29 skates better than Tkachuk at 24
Tkachuk has great hands around the net but his line mates carried the puck |
