Calgary's top two forwards couldn't leave that team fast enough. Something is going on behind the scene with that team or Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk would have wanted to stay. |

JG leaving wasn’t about the team. It was personal. MT was always leaving. He’s a POS.
Could also wonder the same about Huberdeau and Weegar not wanting to resign long term with Florida. Must be something off about the team…right??? |

Wrong, Tkachuk wanted to leave, Huberdeau and Weeger loved it in Florida. We now have a player who wants to be a Florida Panther and will play his heart out. Maybe not so much for Huberseau or Weeger in Calgary. |

Chucky’s a great player but he cares about the name on the back of his jersey more than the emblem on the front. Fans will love him! |

Most players do, it is a business. They will always look out for their families and themselves. Team executives are the same and have no loyalty to their players. Both parties decide what is best for them. |

This would bother me if they still had the leaping cat logo. But I can understand him caring more about the name on the back than the new Panthers logo…haha.
I still can’t get down with that new design. |

You mean you don't like the pantie shield in front, ha. I agree I like the old design better. |

It's a good trade. Truly signals how all in the panthers are. I think it will depend on what happens with the first round pick and if Calgary resigns or flips Huburdeau to see who won long term but for now, Tkachuk I think makes the Panthers the winners. |

As the dust settles from the Panthers-Flames blockbuster, I’m told Jonathan Huberdeau isn’t particularly happy with how everything played out.
There were some early, informal extension talks, but Huby’s camp was waiting for an offer that never came. The next call was the trade.

Looking forward to Jamie Compon and Paul Maurice coaching this team with Tkachuk next year.
Most likely you guys will see Tkachuk on the same line as Eric Staal. The loss of MacKenzie Weager will only exacerbate defensive issues for the Panthers. Paul Maurice ensured that the Jets were always in the bottom five for high danger shots allowed. Bobrovsky will get around 60 starts and will be in the top 3 of shots faced.
I am still waiting for the Panthers to get Blake Wheeler to play for them as that Maurice’s favourite player. I am really looking forward to watching this show. |

I was dead set against getting giroux. Offense was not our problem. I also couldnt believe chiarot cost us a 1st. This better work out because zito has certainly lost all control of the future |

Thought Giroux was a little overkill at the time, too. But a big reason he was brought in was to help win some faceoffs, where FL struggled all season outside of Barkov.
I think Chiarot was an “oh poop” move after Ekblad went out with knee injury.
No first round picks for several years certainly hurts, but seems overly dramatic to say Zito has lost all control of the future. The one thing that feels certain is that Zito won’t sit by idly.

2 second round picks in the next 3 years is the best we got and im sure one of those is likely gone to get us under the cap. Future is toasted sir. We rarely bring the kids up and hes got no one coming in |

So a thought here, think it was a good trade for both teams. With Tkachuk signed long term and and a decent cap hit for what he brings. What if ST. Louis comes a calling and offers that package except say Neighbors gets included, does Zito pull the trigger. |

Damnit i hope not but only time is going to tell on this one. I just feel like zito has lost all his money at the blackjack tables and is betting more to try and dig himself out. He def came in hot thought he could do no wrong and has been faltering lately. Im not against tkachuk i really really hope he pans out but i always worry when youve made a kid set for life that he no longer has to try ever again |

I think Tkachuk will be a great player for many years to come. The two first for Giroux and Chariot were a mistake, but that being said I don't think Vinny Viola is in it for the long haul. He wants to win now! The first draft pick to Calgary is conditional, if we are that bad we keep it. Let's hope that isn't the case though. Tkachuk being twenty-four is like picking a high first pick who has already developed into a primer NHLer. What I like about him is his intensity and shoot first and drive-to-the-net mentality. |

Matthew Tkachuk: "I hate Edmonton, but I hate Tampa more now."
Tkachuck intro press conference from Monday.

(press conference starts at the 4 minute mark)
Zito almost sounds like a fanboy when talking about Tkachuk, you can see why he jumped all over this opportunity. Zito said Tkachuk’s agent called him on Wednesday, he then called Calgary (immediately) to see if it was true. Deal was done Friday afternoon/evening. This deal came out of nowhere, and Zito jumped on it like it was a dream come true. I can see why Huberdeau didn’t get any notice, which Hubie resents quite a bit right now.
I thought Hubie would be a career long Panther... Hubie thought so, too.
