then what was it? Three picks to acquire a similar player to one you just paid someone else to take a year ago. |

Giving up 3 picks who likely don’t amount to much for a 27 years old RH dman off back to back 50+ point season Is a great deal.
It has nothing to do with any other deals he has made.
Ghost was not good his last couple years in a Flyers uniform. Not all on him though doesn’t change he was not good. |

It was Dave Scott, actually, that made the "aggressive retool" comment, although CF did refer to a need for more high-end talent.
Here's the thing: The Flyers boxed themselves in to where they were and still are working from a position of weakness. You can work around cap issues if you have players who've increased their trade value. You can work around a down season or underachieving/injured players you were counting on if you have cap space. It's very tough to work around both.
But, no excuses, there was a seventh-plus month planning window between when AV was fired and when Draft/ FA time came around. The Flyers were unable to put much into action.
-Bill Meltzer
And this is why IMO Scott and Fletcher cannot survive this off-season. The Flyers will be better this coming season, its really hard for them not to be. They will be healthier and now they have a coach that will install more structure and discipline. However in the end this team will be fighting for the Metro division cellar with the Devil and Blue jackets. This is why signing Nic D, resigning Risto and trading for DeAngelo makes no sense. None of these moves are going to move the needle for this team, so instead of fighting to be a bottom middler in the league, why not just play the kids and get another top 5 pick in a deep draft? There is no plan here, Fletcher has been playing the game from a position of weakness and instead of stabilizing like he said, he has still tried to bluff his way to a few pots, and all he has done is busted this franchise. Its time for Fletcher to be moved up or moved out completely and for Scott to retire. |

Every team "could" have signed him last year, I am sure he had more than a few offers, and had his choice where to go, To his credit he made the best of it and earned this contract. Though a healthy Ellis would be ideal, he shows to be an option to fill in so as to not overextend Braun on the top line 20 minutes a night again. The cost and contract are the least of this teams issues |

Dave Scott could have made that comment at some point, I know he echoed it with the "this is not a 3,4,5 year rebuild....2-3 players away" comments.
But Chuck definitely dropped the aggressive re-tool comment in the press conference as well.
"Everything’s on the table," Fletcher said. "We’re going to try to aggressively retool here. The trade deadline typically, as you all know, the teams that are clearly going to make the playoffs are often looking to add guys on expiring contracts. The teams that aren’t making the playoffs have a chance to maybe add some future assets whether they’d be draft picks or prospects. You do get the occasional hockey trade at the trade deadline, but we’re at the 43-game mark, right now we’re really focused on trying to win some games and get better." He followed that up with his comments on elite talent - Flyerfan2868
One thing that always has to be considered. Dave Scott is not a hockey guy. He has no expertise in the sport. So whenever he makes a comment about being 2-3 guys away or about making an aggressive re-tool. He's being influenced by someone and being fed this. He isn't relaying that based on his experience or expertise in the game. Dave Scott is as big an issue if not bigger than Fletcher.

No it's not. Not when you paid assets to get another team to take a similar player off your hands not that long ago. Combined with a bottom 5 team trading draft picks when they should be keeping and using them. It is horrendous asset management. You're wrong to say it has nothing to do with other deals. It's all connected.

It's a shame that you weren't smart enough to realize that the moves made in the 21 off season also weren't going to move the needle. All 3 major moves were bad moves to different degrees. Move Fletcher up? You're kidding me.
I have news for you. Devils and Columbus are significantly better than the Flyers.

DeAngelo is going to be overextended playing on the top pair with the Flyers.

Oh I agree, it's no secret his senior/special advisor group that he's surrounded with has his ear. He even mentions them ahead of Chuck when asked about the front office. That group, along with Fletcher, have their fingerprints, if not direct ties to alot of the moves currently being made. |

Well Scott has been around long enough now that maybe he considers himself a hockey guy. |

Yes it is. Ghost was not a similar player based on his last few years as a Flyer. He wasn’t even in the same ballpark.
You want to argue that a bottom 5 team shouldn’t be trading picks, that is very valid. Also a different conversation.
Of course I am wrong and your correct. That is a given.

I have news for you. DeAngelo isn't going to be a similar player than he was in Carolina. It's not a different conversation. It's part of consideration in the deal.
Those picks have a higher chance of contributing to the Flyers being a contending team than DeAngelo has with the Flyers for the next two years. In fact at best, DeAngelo if he helps the Flyers, will contribute more to hurting their future than helping it. As in the worse they finish, the better chances for a very high draft pick in what is supposed to be a very good draft in 23.

Bill Barber’s role as an adviser is to literally explain hockey to Dave Scott. Snider’s biggest mistake on his way out was appointing Scott to run the franchise. |

You said they were similar. They were not based on when Ghost was traded.
It is a diff conversation. Based on the direction the flyers are taking. You can disagree with that direction.
Those picks will Strome, Labarge, and Susko. Huge loss.
The trade itself was good. Should the flyers have made it where they currently are, nope.
Not going back and forth as fruitless. |

They are similar. Gostisbehere goes to Arizona and has no issue producing points there. Who was the issue?
You have no idea who those picks could be. A 2nd or 3rd round pick could be Kucherov or Point. It wasn't a good trade. If it's a trade a team shouldn't have made then it's not a good one.

Yes similar this year. Ghost did Richard the last few years in Philly. So now Ghost is off the hook. He had no part in his lack of production.
It was a good trade.
I will take my chances on the % and history it won’t be a good pick. You completely overate draft picks.

I wouldn't read too much into the "aggressive retool" and "2 to 3 player away" remarks. That's just a GM and owner trying to put out a fire. One of many.
If they truly felt that way Geadreu is a Flyer right now.
Don't get me wrong I feel both have done an abysmal job so far and are deserving of all criticism they have and will continue to speak. |
