And this is why IMO Scott and Fletcher cannot survive this off-season. The Flyers will be better this coming season, its really hard for them not to be. They will be healthier and now they have a coach that will install more structure and discipline. However in the end this team will be fighting for the Metro division cellar with the Devil and Blue jackets. This is why signing Nic D, resigning Risto and trading for DeAngelo makes no sense. None of these moves are going to move the needle for this team, so instead of fighting to be a bottom middler in the league, why not just play the kids and get another top 5 pick in a deep draft? There is no plan here, Fletcher has been playing the game from a position of weakness and instead of stabilizing like he said, he has still tried to bluff his way to a few pots, and all he has done is busted this franchise. Its time for Fletcher to be moved up or moved out completely and for Scott to retire. - jd250 The Flyers are destined for last in the Metro if you think they will be competing with the BJ's and Devils cause those teams are better. Oh, and Chuckles needs to be moved OUT(certainly not up). The only wild card from keeping the Flyers out of last is coaching and structure compared to the last couple of years. FIRE CHUCK! |

It’s so damn depressing to see this once proud franchise become one of the biggest jokes in the league. The prospect pool is middling at best and sadly lacking any elite talent. When you consider that the team has missed the playoffs in 3 of the last 4 years, that’s inexcusable.
Add to that the bad contracts, questionable free agent signings and the lack of any 2nd round picks until 2025, it’s pathetic.
Dave Scott and Chuck Fletcher should both be on the unemployment line. |

Once referred to as the 7th of the original 6 franchises. Once a proud organization that would sell out every home and away game. Once a proud organization that players wanted to join. Say what you will about the mistakes of Ed Snider over the years, but it never lead to apathy. There was always a push to be the best. The team was almost always competitive. There was always a reason for fans to believe in next year. Today, hockey people are openly laughing at the Flyers. I can hardly wait for The Power Play’s grade this coming Monday to Chuck and his pathetic management team. |

DeAngelo is going to be overextended playing on the top pair with the Flyers. - MJL
Will he be overextended more than Braun Braun filled in admirably, better than expected, but was still a position he should not have been in, Though he may not be ideal, he is the best current option we had, figuring Ellis will not be available |

Yes it is. Ghost was not a similar player based on his last few years as a Flyer. He wasn’t even in the same ballpark.
You want to argue that a bottom 5 team shouldn’t be trading picks, that is very valid. Also a different conversation.
Of course I am wrong and your correct. That is a given. - furio16
I hated to see ghost go but he is does not play with the edge that AD does, yeah hindsight, why, but the ghost ship already sailed |

Giving up 3 picks who likely don’t amount to much for a 27 years old RH dman off back to back 50+ point season Is a great deal.
It has nothing to do with any other deals he has made.
Ghost was not good his last couple years in a Flyers uniform. Not all on him though doesn’t change he was not good. - furio16
It's concerning given what the Canes did after moving Deangelo . They let this 27 yr old RH d man go for 3 picks you say won't do much, simply because they didn't want to pay him 5 million.....Yet immediately flipped one of said picks for a d man that is 10 years older, has 3 years left on his contract, and they'll pay close to the same amount? Carolina isn't the team with questionable asset management here.
They essentially traded the rights to Deangelo and Lorentz (a 7th round pick thats played 4th line), goaltending prospect Makiniemi (a 4th rnd pick with 1 year in AHL), a 7th round pick (Alexis Gendron) and Philly 3rd round pick for Philly 2nd and 4th(Simon Forsmark) round picks, Pederson and Brent Burns with 33% salary retained. They came away with the better overall d man and the better draft picks. |

Why is concerning what Carolina did after they traded Tony D? Burns is a better dman than Tony D. Carolina improved on the back end. Not sure where your going with your post. |

Yes similar this year. Ghost did Richard the last few years in Philly. So now Ghost is off the hook. He had no part in his lack of production.
It was a good trade.
I will take my chances on the % and history it won’t be a good pick. You completely overate draft picks.
This topic is done. - furio16
Saying that I completely overrate draft picks is just a stupid comment. The best teams are built on draft picks. The secret to getting lucky and hitting on later round draft picks is to use them. The more you use, the better the percentage of getting fortunate with a pick past the 1st round.
Gostisbehere showed that he didn't lose the ability to produce offensively so what was the issue in Philly?
I can guarantee pretty much that trading those picks for DeAngelo isn't going to amount to much for this team in the next two seasons.

Our best hope is 2-1 boring games that we’ll occasionally win. |

I don't expect the Flyers to be a good offensive or defensive team. If Ellis can't play, the Flyers right side of their defense is suspect with Braun being the best defender.

I’d say under too if I had to bet, but I think it’ll be close. However I think he’s going to be over his head as far as overall net impact if the plan is to have him has the top pair match to provorov |

The Flyers aren't going to be able to support him like Carolina did to take advantage of the strong parts of his game.

Bill if memory serves, the Tertyshny incident happened because they actually brought the boat back early realized they had an hour remaining and went back out.
It always stuck in my mind as a what if..... |

Pure offensive dmen have not fared well here in the land of 200-ft expectations and $2 teammates. |

I also predict at some point we will see ND on the 1st or 2nd line to "create space".

can't believe we chouldn't trade our ex-selke center and other pieces for MTK |

It's a shame that you weren't smart enough to realize that the moves made in the 21 off season also weren't going to move the needle. All 3 major moves were bad moves to different degrees. Move Fletcher up? You're kidding me.
I have news for you. Devils and Columbus are significantly better than the Flyers. - MJL
You know what else was a bad move?
Signing a turning 30 year old ex selke winner never to be compared with hall of famer Bergy to 8 year contract. Especially when core “star” player was over 30 and not good enough to win cup especially.

Another opportunity squandered by the Flyers because of their cap predicament. I am not just talking about Tkachuk either, I'm talking about Huberdeau and Weeger potentially available at the 2023 trade deadline. The Flyers even then will not be a position most likely to trade for those players at the deadline, because they certainly will not have the cap space! Big names are moving all over the place, really good young players, and the Flyers have their hands tied because they preferred instead to resign Risto, trade for DeAngelo and sign a tough guy!
Meanwhile I think its clear Captain Comfortable himself, Claude Giroux, took the money and the easy life in Ottawa where there will be no pressure in the world, instead of trying to sign with a contending team. Apparently winning isn't all that important to G afterall! |
