Jesus Chr1st! The "tax thing" you speak of is absolutely NOT overstated. Pull your head out of your arse man, these things you're posting are nonsense and EVERY NHLer is concerned about taxes, actually it's every athlete across all sports. And yes, they all want to live in FLA, for the significantly lower tax burden. You seriously cannot think that the USA has higher tax rates than Canada. Wow.

Also, not a chance Huberdeau is staying in Cowtown.

- JLO961

Don’t be so simple. To calculate the difference is difficult, but in general, lower-income Canadians pay less in tax for the services they receive and rich Americans are better off than rich Canadians.

So for all the “average Joe” Canadians who go on about the low taxes in the US, they have no (frank)ing clue what they are talking about.

What a lot of people forget is these contracts for all NHL teams are paid in US dollars. So if you like the City & live in Canada, players get a 25% bump on the dollar exchange. The money these fckers get these days, they can have a mansion in Canada & have a pretty nice place where ever they want in the US. I also wouldnt get too hung up on the taxes thing because as much as people dont like talking politics on these sites, the deficit & inflation wracking up in the US, a change in their taxation system is inevitable. The economic fallout from the pandemic has just begun.

Anyone read Tkachuk Sportsenet interview?

Wonder if there is a little shade thrown at JG. Tkachuk mentions that he wanted to do what was best for himself but also not leave Calgary in a bad spot.

Tkachuk gets a lot of hate, but he left with way more class than JG.

Absolutely! I for one will not boo Tkachuk, but Gaudreau, whether intentionally or not screwed us, so he's dead to me.

I think what some of us forget is that guys like Tkachuk probably don’t give two (frank)s about taxes, it’s a great excuse. But wussy, good times, and the rock star lifestyle is way more fun in a place like Florida than Calgary, especially when in Florida where no one knows how how you are.

For sure he was referring to Johnny. Say what you want about him, he did the right thing for the Flames.

It's pretty weird seeing people praise Tkachuk and villainize Gaudreau. They both wanted out of Calgary. Tkachuk's phone call wasn't anything but damage control and PR spin. He didn't do Calgary a solid. He was still under contract. He did what he did because he got to pick where to go and get the money he wanted. Since when does forcing a trade make you the good guy?

If Huberdeau demands a trade next week, will he be praised?

Don't get me wrong, I don't blame either Gaudreau or Tkachuk for how they handled things. They both did what was best for them, but they both deserve standing ovations and video packages when they return. Thankfully, that's only happening once, maybe five times, a year.

Tkachuk and Gudreau are perfect examples of why Canadian teams shouldn't count on American players to be franchise cornerstones. No loyalty. Back to the US as soon as they can.

Tkachuk got himself out of Canada as soon as he could, at least we got Gaudreau for a 6 year extension. I have a feeling Tre could have gotten an 8 year extension had he gone up a million a year or so.

It will be a real shame when the Kane arbitration send Kane back to SJ. Will have to give up something major to take half his salary to get him back to EDM. Assumiing they don't trade him to some other team.
- Traveldude

That is the least likely scenario, and you’re talking like it’s a foregone conclusion. If it looks like Kane is gonna win this case San Jose will most likely settle and cut him a check for the difference. Why are you so convinced it will go down any other way?

#Flames TV will have plenty of coverage from Jonathan Huberdeau & MacKenzie Weegar's press conference but here's a sneak peak:

"I'm open to staying in Calgary for a long time." - Huby

"I'm open to signing a long-term deal ... very open to it." - Weegs

That is good news. Seems the team was built to compete till 2024. Most contracts end then. However, if the new acquisitions expect too much money, I hope they are traded before ever wearing the Flaming C.

Now what to do with Kylington and/or Valimaki? I think the Canes could use Kylington - I'd like to see BT target Martin Necas... can play C or RW, both positions of need in our top9.

Or a blockbuster with OTT: Hanifin+Valimaki for Stutzle. OTT desperately needs a top4 dman.

Problem here is then you're relying on Kylington in the top 4 over Hanifin. But trading Kylington doesn't get you the return that Hanifin does.

Most likely Kylington is traded for something, as it seems the relationship between player and management isn't the greatest.
Sign Mangiapane already to a 4-6 year extension!
Sonny Milano is a young UFA I'd like to see Cgy investigate to sign to play in our top 9 too. Mike Raffl depth 3rd/4th liner too. We have cap space.

I agree, hopefully both will be reasonable. Treliving should clarify Hanifin's long-term intentions, he could be a trade chip to improve our center. We have 10 D on one-way contract, some won't clear the waivers wire, better trade them instead of losing them for nothing.
