I completely disagree. I think not keeping Tanev was one of the biggest mistakes made by previous regime (well biggest of the mistakes at the end). Totally threw off Hughes' trajectory.

I think Hughes' growth would have been much more consistent on the upswing. I think he could have been that top 10 even 5 D people are talking about on here. Sure anything could have happened and maybe he suffers the sophomore jinx still, but at least he wouldn't have sunk to such lows where he looked lost out there if Tanev was in the picture that whole time, imho.

He played with much less hesitation (offensive & defensive) and way more swagger and confidence. Who knows that Tanev did for him off the ice as well, but I feel like it must have been something pumping his tires, whatever.

Don't get me wrong, I like what Schenn brings in physicality and the value and he compliments Hughes better than most of the post Tanev D partners, but to say he compares to Tanev in any way is dead wrong.

It's a friend of a friend type of deal, and from what I was told this new regime loses their poop over leaks so I don't want to just blurt it out just in case. Benning regime gave no (frank)s so I mentioned the Edler + 6th overall + 24th overall for 1st overall(Sam Reinhart) trade I heard about in 2014.


This guy is more involved with the draft side of things so he really only hears about deals that get offered on draft days.
