Sooooooooooooo....
This is how someone stops MJL and [fill in a name] from arguing debating for dozens of pages on the same subject as the day before. |

You have a kind heart and a very myopic perspective, but this off-season was for me not at all as bad as what I feared. The biggest plus being that the team did not sign a 27 or older marquee FA to some long term contract. And they kept their firsts.
Sanheim, Risto, TAD, TK, JVR, are not Torts type players. Nether is Hayes. With a hopefully impaired Couts, a hopefully mostly absent Ellis, and a hopefully very delayed Bee, there is a decent chance this team could actually pick top 5 again. 2 top 5 picks would be enormous progress. Two more and we could actually have some semblance of vision and progress, and it is not out of the realm of possibility. - PT21
What is the definition of a Torts type player?
A hopefully impaired Couturier? Why would one human being hope for another to have a physical issue? That could cause them pain and discomfort? Affect their ability to perform their profession? If that doesn't speak to someone's character, I don't know what does. |

Very strong in defensive positioning.
Ha ha ha. How about a painless discomfortless affliction that keeps him out then?

The trick to debate with MJL, which both recognizes his virtues and his flaws, is to say your piece, know that he often makes sense in initial takes, and be aware that after the 2nd/3rd post on a topic, chances of the flawed MJL emerging are very high, so walk away, such as now. |

How exactly would you have expected them to gain those firsts? They have no one who they could trade to give them that this off-season.
I don't see as inexplicable a process as you do. I feel the people who run the franchise believe, rightly or wrongly, that the fan base would not sustain years of very bad performance by design. They tried their best to give people that veneer of competitiveness, and then got hemmed in.
Or, they are actually trying to pick as high as possible while seeming to trying still to be competitive and get as many asses on seats as possible.
I feared they would be even more cynical.
EDIT: The critical measure of this year's success/failure will be: % of seats filled. - PT21
It would be a series of different moves that would not have left them painted into this corner. Alternatively, they could have traded Risto to get one. Not trading away value picks would also help. Not having any seconds leaves few options to be able to move up at a spot as needed and in a deep draft like ‘23, leaves no chance to find a gem with the pick.
Or….or? Doesn’t seem like you really know what the process is.
There will be less seats occupied. What’s that going to say to you?
More cynical…like trading the firsts? |

You have to consider what kind of person brings up a posters Mother or Father with no concern for what an individual is dealing with. A poster's parent could be sick or have recently passed away or some other issue. It's really a derelict thing to post and from a source that honestly has no sense whatsoever. The best thing to do is to ignore it and it will eventually go away - MJL
you need to go out and get some air Cliff. Maybe a few days at the beach to get some color on that pale skin of yours. The sun will help.

Risto and TK may be Torts like players, in fact they both may blossom under Torts. I am interested in seeing what will happen there. I agree Sanheim, JVR and Hayes are going to be in for a big eye-opener. But I agree with your latter point more and have been posting similar thoughts this past few weeks, in that for this franchise to truly take a step forward, they need to be picking high again in this very deep draft. The current team is nothing, its really about the players on this team 3-4 years from now that matter more.

So let me get this straight. Ristolainen , who is a completely mediocre player and has been under numerous coaches for nine seasons may blossom. However, Sanheim, who is a much better player than Ristolainen is going to be in for a big eye-opener? Completely hysterical. |

Torts absolutely took a shot across Hayes bow when he said, "When Kevin Hayes goes out and blocks a shot, at a huge time in the game, what's that do for your bench?"

Honestly don't see either player having that much trouble under Torts.
Torts played the absolute bag off of mediocre guys like Marc Staal, Jason Garrison, Jack Johnson, Girardi, etc for years.
He also played the bag off guys like MDZ, Werenski and Rozsival who were more on the finesse/offensive side of things.
As long as a guy plays with effort and is willing to fix mistakes, Torts won't have a problem with them. |

Let me see if I understand correctly: A respected sports journalist, former President of the hockey writer's association, wrote a guest column highlighting the fact that a main character in a beloved hockey flick had cancer, and asked readers to help. In response the poster suggested he was "pretty sure" said journalist could pay the entire $40k himself, and that he was a 'douche' for asking readers to hypocritically donate, and that he should GTFOH.
All this was a nothing burger to you, while in the same breath, you are sickened by my purported lack of empathy in hoping Couturier misses most of the year.
It generally takes you a few hours into the day to hit the full blown nutjob state, MJL. Today, you have hit it very early. It is quite magnificent to watch. Howdya do it? Extra cup of Joe? Those crazy concentrated cold brews?
I will be bowing out from this exchange, but hope for such continued entertainment in the hours ahead in your interaction with others. |

Defensive positioning. Sanheim tends to make some ill advised pinches. TK has had some issues with backchecking, and choosing a bad time to be the 2nd/3rd guy on the forecheck and getting caught up high.
Variations on such themes. |
