I remember this place getting angry over the fact that Benning was making the same mistakes in year eight as he made in year one. Generally there was much optimism when GMMG was fired and Benning came in. But year after year of mistakes after mistakes had a toll on fan patience.
But I think you need to give the new regime the same leeway at the start as any new management group deserves. Trust me, most of us will turn real quick if progress can't be seen. - bloatedmosquito
Yup.
I gave Benning / Linden a year and a half. I think Nucker was the only one going ballistic on day one (Kesler for Bonino/Sbisa).
Unless they do something completely moronic I can wait a little longer before turning on them. |

No they never said that nor did I claim they did. On the other hand, things are starting to stink of FA... this season's playoffs are now front and center and like magic people are flipping their position. Why are the people who were mocking playoff talk not mocking Rutherford all of a sudden? Rutherford, Lordy and his playoff critics are on the same page... hahaha
As far as building a contender.... we'll see. They will have to show me something first before I buy it. I look forward to this season's playoffs if the team stays healthy like management saying... or FA or whomever...
I think Miller will be better for the Canucks in playoffs this time being a contract year... Having 3 centers playing balls to the walls will be exciting. - boonerbuck
I don’t think it’s a playoff team. No flip, no flop. They’re probably the fifth best team in their division, but making the playoffs isn’t done in the off season, based on their run last year I can see how they are optimistic about their chances. We’ll see I guess. |

Pay attention. How is adding Dermott for a 3rd show an eye on the future like Neem thinks management is showing?
You sound like the clique word for word when this place fell apart every time Benning made a move like that. Have times ever changed. - boonerbuck
So you're gonna label me for thinking Dermott is worth the 3rd we paid. Cool. That 3rd rounder may or may not have improved our D depth 5 years from now. Dermott does now.
It's pretty simple to grasp for anyone. Well, except your pea brain. You can't move players from the D without the depth to support it, or you wind up depleted in that position. 3rd rounders are not depth. |

Technically he’s right. No Dermott is zero years, which makes them younger, unless… he’s younger than the current average, which would in fact bring the average down, making them younger.
Personally, I would have preferred they kept the 3rd and just rode out the season with whatever trash they had, or even unloaded some more while teams were desperate to make a splash thereby freeing up some space. But I get why they didn’t, bubble… |

Whoever was pining for Ethan Bear can stand down, he’s re-signed in Carolina.
“Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed Ethan Bear (Cree) to one-year, $2.2M contract extension.” |

Danton Heinen signs for 1 million, a player who provides good 3rd line numbers, adds a bit of puck pressure.
Canucks have signed and/or traded for 2 players similar to that, over the past 2 offseasons, but have paid almost 5 million for each 1 of those players.
I said it last year under Benning, Garland is a 3rd liner, and I don't know much about Mikheyev, but he sounds like a 3rd liner as well.
Paying 5 million each for 2 players who are 3rd liners, and not centres, is IMO a overpayment, by about 4 million, between the 2 players.
Hopefully Mikheyev proves me wrong and becomes a valuable 2nd line player. |

This was a pretty big bet / risk by Alvin and company. If he doesn't produce / play well I think the fans will turn pretty early.

Yeah, they basically said that the bubble year they (pro scouts) watched him a lot and they were keyed on him as a free agent. But these are the same pro scouts who agreed on, as Rueby points out, Richardinson and Garland and and |

The pro scouts are Benning bad. I'm surprised that the department wasn't napalmed. |

Doesnt he? You claim Miller is better than Tkachuk... well look at what the Flames got in return.... a winger at that. If they weren't happy with the offers when teams were shopping, it's going to be even more disappointing in march as a rental... - boonerbuck
Just cause someone on here says dumb things like Miller is better than thachuk or has no value, dowsnt make them true. What are you, new?! |

So those guys weren’t with the team the year they played the Leafs so often? How many (what %) are new? |

Allvin spoke specifically about watching him and they had targeted him. They said the analytics department was high on him, which is new. Dale Tallon was also brought in to advise pro scouting. But, the pro scouting team does largely consist of the same guys. You’re not wrong there, I just think that they are basing Miky a lot more of scouting him last year as they were targeting a different type of player(than bending regime): fast, aggressive/defensive |

You were wrong about Garland then, and you are wrong now. You have nothing to back up your claims he is a 3rd liner. But every metric supports him being a 2nd liner.
104th in forward scoring. There are 192 top 6 spots in the league. He was 51st in 5v5 scoring as a forward, 53rd if you include defensemen. The guy is a 2nd liner, and your prejudice because he is 5'6 is meaningless. |

As I said, I’m prepared to wait another year before I start yelling at the internet about them, but for those who are already antsy, I’d say they have legitimate concern. |

No one said either of those things stupid (frank). I hate Tkachuk but he is 25 and clearly has far more value than our aging winger |

He also can conceivably get better whereas Miller has hit his high watermark and will decline, so yeah there's a HUGE gap in value between Tkachuk and Miller. Plus Miller is a pending UFA and looking for a huge contract for 7-8 years at 30 so that also factors in. |
