Here's a thought, take the power away from the teacher's unions to be able to politicize their classrooms and the curriculum and education in general and give that power back to parents for a change. Maybe focus solely on things like reading, writing and arthematic and actually have consequences for failure and breaking rules and the like instead of waggling fingers and making excuses and giving out participation awards. Maybe if we celebrate actual achievement instead of mediocrity, society might improve a whole lot. Might actually make children less sensitive and able to handle the real world instead of being selfish entitled and easily offended brats that spout ideology and dogma rather than actual rational thought and critical thinking and proper debate. - DariusKnight
You do realize that the parents are the ones who have made the system what it is today. They rant and rave and sometimes even threaten teachers, who want to fail a student, or discipline a student.
These same parents are the ones that complain because their kid/s didn't get recognized for any award that some of the kids earned, so they create the wonderful participation award.
Some of these same parents, have kids with special needs that insist on their kids being in the same classrooms as the other kids, which in turns slows down the learning of the more advanced kids, as many of those kids need extra attention.
I know this, because my children have experienced this, my nephew has experienced it and I am friends with many teachers and education assistance, who feel that the parents have created the mess that the education system is in.
I agree with them. |

I’m assuming they don’t want to commit a lot of money long term to a 29 year old player. Which is a sound business model #tradeMiller - LeftCoaster
Yeah I figure that's their move. I think they also have another deal in the works regarding shipping out a D. |

Yup, I knew the librarian at a high school in the lower mainland where the school principal or vice principals were not allowed to talk to certain students unless those students had (their parent's) lawyers on hand. Junior high. Herion OD's and rapes. |

Right on! Giving parents MORE influence is definitely not the answer. I get a kick out of those parents who accompany their adult child to job interviews. That just blows my mind. |

Yup.
These are the same parents that don't help their kids with the basics, like reading or arithmetic.
Usually they spend very little, if any time on any type of educating of their kids. |

Yes, and then those teachers turned around and decided to make school into daycare centers and took the ability of parents to teach their own kids their own values and indoctrinated them into their own. The pendulum's swung way too far away from where it should be. And note that it's parents that pay those teacher salaries with their property taxes that have the school tax added to it. Having no say at all is just as bad as having too much say. |

It happens regularly.it is usually the parents who allowed their children to grow-up on video games and their children have zero social skills. |

Yes and no. During the pandemic my kids flourished because they already had a large social group on-line playing video games. My youngest has on-line friends from all over the world; USA, Mexico, England, China, Germany, France, etc. He gets exposed to thinking that he would not normally be exposed to in his local social group. Especially those friends from Europe... |

Are you saying that because we pay taxes, we should be able to dictate what the dollars are spent on.
If that were the case, all provincial tax dollars would be spent in the bigger areas of the province.
Some of those areas provide less tax dollars, per capita than some of the other regions of the province.
I do agree, the system needs to be fixed.
I have been an advocate of having kids be able to focus entirely on their career goals, while in highschool, for example, if a student is going to be a tradesperson, that student should be able to take classes and or practicum while still in school and coming out of said program already with at least the 1st year under their belt. |

I was more referring to kids who are on-line continuously, from a very young age and don't participate in any sort of activities, with other kids, other than on-line.
I have had the joy of trying to train some of these kids, in the field and they are almost untrainable.
BTW, I have been training many co-workers for over 30 years and some of these kids are the hardest to train, as they not only have next to zero social skills, but they don't even know some basic tools, like a shovel or hammer. |

That's a fairly broad generalization. Video games aren't inherently harmful, it's more that kids who spend all day every day gaming instead of socializing often have neglectful or lazy parents. |
