Every kid should graduate from high school knowing how to do their own taxes. There's no excuse with the software out there. - golfingsince
Agreed. I'm very thankful I grew up with a large family that taught me many things. I can't imagine how much different my life would be if I had neglectful parents, or no parents at all. |

You want to control what your children learn at school? Seriously, do you not think society is capable of regulating this? If I have a problem with what my kid is learning or not learning at school then I let the school board and/or principal know. I think it's great that they're learning two languages, science, math, sports, arts, and practical life skills. - golfingsince
This is great. 100%. But I like what Darius said about zero accountability for failure. Everybody passes. Kids need to learn growing up that failure is a part of life and you grow from it. Not be told it's no big deal and just move on. We are seeing the massive effects of that in employment right now from kids coming out of high school. Only to get worse I fear.
As far as what the current 'society' is capable of regulating? I will question that as well. Not to 'control' what kids learn at school but to draw a line at indoctrination of certain topics with kids which are appearing to being normalized. I will take issue with that every day...all day. |

Nice.
When we were stuck inside, we were occasionally watching TV, but played many different board and card games, that taught us about math and strategies. - Reubenkincade

Eat poop. I can find you just as many far right morons in every other province. But that wouldn’t fit your narrative. I can also guarantee that there are far more far left idiots in BC. - TurdFergeson

Not at my kids school. They teach the kids to think. The children draw their own conclusions. I ask my teenage daughter about politics during an election. They're taught the process, ideology. They're graded on how well they get their points across and the ideas they have. |

I think your generation is the same as mine. My parents wanted me to play sports and travel as much as I could. They were successful in getting me to do both but I would still say that TV was my babysitter for most of my youth. - bloatedmosquito

Yes, and then those teachers turned around and decided to make school into daycare centers and took the ability of parents to teach their own kids their own values and indoctrinated them into their own. The pendulum's swung way too far away from where it should be. And note that it's parents that pay those teacher salaries with their property taxes that have the school tax added to it. Having no say at all is just as bad as having too much say. - DariusKnight
Not my industry...but I'm pretty sure that the province sets the curriculum that is taught, school boards that dictate what standards is and isn't allowable.
Typical mindset...blame teachers, or the workers, always go to the lowest denominator, the person at the bottom...
Teachers aren't the power here taking your tax dollars, it the (frank)ing gov't, so blame the appropriate people. |

It’s common knowledge that Bo Horvat roves around the neighborhood grilling up burgers for Arizonans visiting cottage country. |

I always look forward to Chilliwack corn when ready. But I don’t think I’ll be purchasing any this year. God knows what the flooding did to the soil quality. A mixture of poop, diesel, and chemicals. No thanks. |

I watched idiocracy last night, frankly it was a bit disappointing. Great idea, it could have been so much better.
Edit - speaking of ruining the soil. |

Choices. Life is about choices!
I got the 1 shot J&J, it allows me to travel freely. Owning a place in another country would be useless if I couldn’t use it.
Some people think lesser of those for their choices and it really none of their business. I’ve got many unvaxed friends, that was their choice. - K-man25
So really was there much of a choice there.

Klingberg is still floating out there in Free Agency... Yeah he has his defensive lapses but he would add more offense to the back end not to mention the fact that he's a right shot. - NorthNuck
Need a trade to open Cap... if he were to be an option. Not that I am advocating that way.

Yes, the Ministry sets the curriculum, but the teacher's union (and for clarity's sake I was focusing on the leadership who have heavily politicized education to gain more power and money, not simply all teachers as I do have friends/family who are teachers myself) and special interest groups like the LGTBQ+ community (specifically the trans part of that community) have hijacked education to bring gender politics and to normalize being sex positive and to transition as young as kindergarden. That is where I say things need to change. Parents get very little say, and school boards have even less because their only function is basically to allocate the budget and make recommendations to the Ministry on curriculum and staffing which tend to either get ignored or outright rejected. I should know, I ran for school board myself last election (and am running again) and sat on almost every board meeting. |

Right on! Giving parents MORE influence is definitely not the answer. I get a kick out of those parents who accompany their adult child to job interviews. That just blows my mind. - bloatedmosquito
yeah I have done many interviews... but never have I had a parent accompany someone. That would be an immediate non hire hahaha

Have you not been paying attention to the conversation? Teachers have to normalize it because if not they face the wrath of the offended parent. They could also face the wrath of the board.
As was mentioned, your anger is misguided. |

They have to be inclusive of everyone, that's not just a school policy it's basic (frank)ing parenting. Or do you kick your gay kids out of the family? |
