At $2.5 m for Poolman does not bother me much. If he stays healthy and eat up uneventful minutes then it's a decent number. I'm thinking these are not great contracts:

Richardinson @2.6m
Pearson @ $3.2m
Garland @ $4.9m
Myers @ $6m
Boeser @ $6.6m
Ekman-Larsson @ $7.2m

But other than OEL, I don't see a need to add draft picks on any potential trade. You just can't expect much back on a few.

- bloatedmosquito

Agree other than Garland is a fair contract. Boeser can play up to his after last years troubles. Myers is a ride out situation without the depth to consider moving him.

I remember this place getting angry over the fact that Benning was making the same mistakes in year eight as he made in year one. Generally there was much optimism when GMMG was fired and Benning came in. But year after year of mistakes after mistakes had a toll on fan patience.

But I think you need to give the new regime the same leeway at the start as any new management group deserves. Trust me, most of us will turn real quick if progress can't be seen.

These criticisms of Benning were long before year 8... and as long as we have the same owner, I feel they are the same mistakes. Rutherford is very experienced and we are told his hiring's are very competent. This time round I won't be making excuses for owners and management.

It’s going to be a real long next 8 years for you if you are already pissed at management…Dermott is real (frank)ing minor. He is decent

Disagree. Miller isn’t walking for free. I’ve my stance & you the old rhetoric.

Why does it seem like their moves have an eye on the future? Giving up a 3rd for Dermott and acquiring a bunch of (NHL)middle aged forwards? They are saying it's tough to address the D right now but does that mean they have to go out and stack the forward core instead and getting even tighter against the cap this year and next? Wouldn't "patience" be waiting until you deal with your priorities even if the playoffs would be put at risk before dishing out 4 year contracts on players one good season?

It's about NOW obviously. Eye on the future would have them standing pat on adding forwards and actually moving a couple... the complete opposite.

The idea that there's no way they keep Miller playoffs or not is interesting. How do GM's see the situation if it's so obvious that Miller is gone no if ands or buts at the TDL? Obviously a buyers market for Miller then.

- boonerbuck

It’s about now & in the next few years. The now is against the cap so can accrue cap space once Ferland is LTIRetired. That allows flexibility at the TDL to be used in a capacity to benefit. Middle aged? Hardly but more like stability added for depth & fill need. Making trades takes a dance partner & not many deals happened.

Right, so if they want to win now, why not trade a draft pick and bad contract and sign Klingberg or use the cap to acquire a dman? Cause they don’t want to trade draft picks, they want them for the next draft, which has nothing to do with win-now

It was one of several examples. People are isolating it to downplay what I'm saying. Sign of me making some good points. Always the way it unfolds here...

The old rhetoric is the veiled attempt at linking the past with the present without foundation. My stance is I’m out on a limb this mgmt group isn’t JB & won’t be.

They are not looking at going all in obviously. Nobody is even asking if their cup window is now... not sure why you are bringing it up.

I see the owner wanting playoff revenue over and over... and management sees this as a playoff team. I've been saying that for weeks and getting grilled over it and sure enough, they came right out and said it today. Now the same people are are not mocking me for it but making excuses....

They never said this is a perennial PO team like they want to build. They simply said this team is capable this season nothing about long term. Big difference. Lastly their goal is to build a contender.

The cap is an issue, I expect them to keep working patiently including the tdl. They’ve been patient so far, I’ve liked their moves personally. Waiting to see a move I don’t like to get pessimistic about this regime

As long as FA who is a known meddler is still the boss... past moves will be relevant. Call it rhetoric... then you have no reason to engage with what you think is a unreasonable opinion.

No they never said that nor did I claim they did. On the other hand, things are starting to stink of FA... this season's playoffs are now front and center and like magic people are flipping their position. Why are the people who were mocking playoff talk not mocking Rutherford all of a sudden? Rutherford, Lordy and his playoff critics are on the same page... hahaha

As far as building a contender.... we'll see. They will have to show me something first before I buy it. I look forward to this season's playoffs if the team stays healthy like management saying... or FA or whomever...

I think Miller will be better for the Canucks in playoffs this time being a contract year... Having 3 centers playing balls to the walls will be exciting.

I don’t live in the past & tie mgmt groups together in the present. The front office is drastically different & overhauled with a much bigger & diverse group. They’ll be judged on what they do. Comparing them to the past isn’t worth going there. There is still 2 1/2mths til game 1 & I’m not going let impatience be a concern. You are giving FA far too much input on todays team. Can you not at least wait til something tangible happens & relax til then?

Just sayin it’s too early to get too wound up in any direction aka keep an open mind til it matters.

I should go and cut and paste one of the many times you posted about "people just wanting to talk hockey what's the problem" on here and paste up beside your control freak posts about what hockey opinions can be posted... you are acting like damage control. If there's nothing to worry about then give it a break. There's enough control freaking in here about non hockey talk so I really don't want to hear it when I talk hockey as well...

And I was furious when they signed Boeser 🤷‍♂️ My opinion hasn’t changed. They clearly didn’t have a good handle on the value of wingers this off season. They could have replaced him for half the price and spent the difference on D. Huge error. With that being said, who the (frank) could have predicted this off season. Confusing as (frank). Miller doesn’t appear to have value coming off 99 points and a sub $6MM cap hit lol
- CanuckDon

Doesnt he? You claim Miller is better than Tkachuk... well look at what the Flames got in return.... a winger at that. If they weren't happy with the offers when teams were shopping, it's going to be even more disappointing in march as a rental...

Yet I know 7 people off work from vax injuires and double boosted all getting covid...repeatedly. Don't know one person who has died from 'covid'. Go figure. And it's only getting worse.

Folks have too much ego to admit they have been duped or misled.

Then answer the question... should your elementary school kid be taught that transitioning from one gender to the next and if the parents do not agree that they're told to either put their kids in a private school or else that they're transphobic and/or racist and/or a Karen/Ken or whatever derogatory adjective you'd like to name someone who cares about their kid and to not have them confused at a young age? Should children who haven't even entered puberty be taught about sex (beyond the basic biology, hygeine and what have you) and about promiscuity and about sexuality without parental consent?

Garland, Myers, and Boeser all have positive value. Pearson will at next years TDL with retention. Next offseason Pearson and Richardy probably don't cost a lot to dump as they are both effective NHL players and doesn't cost a lot of actual money.
