32, 11 and 8 are the next numbers, in that order as well. |

My first reaction on seeing the title of this blog was just "WOW"...
I get it, Kings fans were starving for something, for hope, for hits, for goals and along came DB and delivered those things. I will not deny how amazing his play in the 2012 SCP was, he was a beast, a man on a mission, but he deteriorated quickly after that. How does a player who was stripped of his captaincy end up with a statue and his number retired? Might be a first in sports history...

His career is complicated. Brown's play for about a 3 year stretch was atrocious for one of the highest paid players on the team and a former captain. During that time, he was memorable for his falling and failed drag moves. Seemed like he never went to the net during that stretch. I got the impression he was coasting. Fair or not: that's what it looked like. Sure, he rectified things a bit after 16/17 for a couple of years before he rapidly declined.
His supporters are usually so dogmatic and inflamed at any criticism of the "captain" that your loyalty to the team is questioned if you point out that a retired jersey and a statue might be too much of a tribute.
Fine captain. Had some fine years. Definitely a big part of the Cup runs. But I will never put him in the same class as his peers like Kopitar, Quick, Williams, or Doughty.

Exactly. his jock-clingers are quick to point out his goals, but there is so much more that goes in to every shift. The man is a turnover MACHINE!! He fancied himself a puck handler when he was a muck-and-grinder. He couldn't receive a pass or make a tape-to-tape to save his life. The list goes on and on, but his goals... that's all they see. |

I don't think a statue for him is really needed. He wasn't a superstar that made the la kings a market in sports. Maybe his number for the fact he captain 2 cups. That would be it. But for sure 32,11 and 8 will get there numbers retired. I think 32 deserves more of the credit then he gets. The guy wasn't a 1st rounder and was able to give this team every night a chance to win. He deserves more than anyone else. |

glad to see Brown's number retired.
As for the statue, if they are going to give Brown one, they should wait and do one statue with Brown, Kopi, Quick and Doughty. |

32 should write books and do speaking engagements on mental fortitude. I have a tough time picking a favorite goalie ever between Quick, Vanbiesbrouck, and Belfour. Unbelievable competitiveness, tempers they (mostly )controlled, but when they harnessed that piss and vinegar? Unbeatable on some nights. That was especially true for Quick in 11/12 when he was locked in. |

The jersey retirement is a no-brainer, captain of two Cup-winning teams, easy. The statue is what's puzzling. Those are usually reserved for icons of the sport, much less their own teams. |

I see Brown's number being retired compared to Robitaille's number. He was good playing along the great one during his career but trailed off badly towards the ends of his career. |

The story I was told there will be room to add 3 more near him, though I wish they would do all 4 at once |

Starting to get worried about a Durzi contract. Kylington just got 2.5m. LA was not trying to pay that much. |

AND Anderson has to be the priority signing given his shutdown role opposite Drew and being an LHD.
Yanetti was on the All The Kings Men podcast about a month ago. He said the team actually received first round pick offers for Hickey prior to losing him for nothing. While I don't think teams are offering a first for Durzi, the longer this looms, the more it seems to weaken Blake's power to get a deal to at least move Durzi for something decent. |
