Saw a comment that was funny/sad/true all at the same time. The Canucks traded a 1st for JT Miller. Obviously a home run trade. Braden Schneider was available to draft with that pick. And yet the Canucks apparently couldn't get Schneider in return for Miller at the TDL - Nucker101
Schneider went 19th, wasn't the Canucks pick #20? |

Do you really think the Canucks would have picked at #20 without Miller in the lineup? |

That doesn't matter. The fact is that our pick was #20 and Schneider went 19. If we didn't have Miller who knows where we would have drafted and who. |

You are right the Canucks would have been picking in top 12. |

That then says much fir Millers value then & especially now. I also think he’ll age well. Has 3 good years in him & probably declines a bit after but still good enough. |

I have no doubt in my mind that Miller will be a fairly productive player for the next 5 or so years, I just don't think the team will be ready until then.
I guess if the team gets into the playoffs 1 year and gets to the 2nd round some other year, during that time, people will be happy.
I continue to say, as I have said over and over again, as a Canucks fan, you have to build through the draft. 3 or 4 solid picks, is not building through the draft, it is taking shortcuts.
This is not a new concept, as teams like the Habs of the 70s, the Islanders of the 80s, the Oilers of the 80s, the Devils, Avalanche/Nordiques, the Red Wings, etc., all built from the draft, and were perennial cup contenders/Champions.
Pretty basic concept. |

It’s too late for that. This team is what it is and they will ride this core. So as a fan I hope they win a few playoff series. Perhaps in 5 or 6 years they will try a new rebuild were they tear it down to the studs |

Yeah, realistically this is the type of team that’s going to be thrilled if they can pull off winning a playoff round or 2 for the next 5-6 years. Similar to the Flames/Leafs teams we’ve seen over the years |

Seems like they think ep, qh, Bo and Demko are the guys. I for one think they are right, but understand pessimistic views. Young players are a question mark but we do have quite a few that could exceed, the cap and building around them better is the challenge. |

The potential I see is that unlike the flames and many teams that fizzle, our best players did unreal in the playoffs. |

Setting up the roster for success is the mission. Front office is totally remade & diverse for todays NHL. Good core & the support is improving with depth still coming. The D of course is what will drive this team as far as it can go. Major challenge to be done there. |

I remember several years back, when the Leafs wreaking the conference finals for a couple years in a row and how they were the best team ever.
Kinda like the Islanders of recent seasons, make the semis for a couple seasons and fall off the face of the earth, the following season. |

Overachieved with a coach who got his message through. Best skill a coach can have but the hardest to sustain. Takes a special group of players & leaders to keep it going. Probably the rarest of combos. TB has both imo. |
