You were hoping to get him?
- Reubenkincade

No, but our division just got more difficult. Anaheim should take another step forward this year imo.

There isn't anyone on this team that I wouldn't trade, outside of EP40 or Demko, to get Schneider and/or Dobson.

I’d prefer Schneider to him if we’re going that young.

Agree could be tight. ANA and VAN move up and CGY and LA step back a touch. All chasing EDM. VGK window is closed but still a decent team.

I would try hold onto Demko, as long as possible., but he is expendable if the right deal comes along.

A good thread on younger vs older players at the draft.

He’s one of the better value contracts in the league, and if you surrounded him with better D I bet he’d be in the Vezina conversation more often. But I agree, if you get a serious offer that sets you up for a long time you have to consider it.

Trade Elias before you consider a Demko trade. The Swedish twig will be making $10MM in a few years 🤮

Everyone should be available for the right return. And yes, if he has two good/great seasons, an 8 year deal will probably cost $70+m

Hockey IQ is also very involved. Virtanen was one of the youngest players in the draft.

Chase McCallum did a thing on Birthdays not too far back.
Nice enough to go find it for you.

Thanks, I’m not sure how the U18 draft works for CHL prospects as far as age cut off. In minor hockey you play in the tier based on your birth year Jan-Dec. but for the NHL draft if you are born after mid September you get bumped to the next draft, making you among the oldest players. You would think that November and December birthdays would be similarly skewed as January and February no?

Anecdotally, it makes sense to me that a player who is performing at roughly the same level as his peer who is 6 months older has a better chance of excelling.

Edit, I guess it’s U16 not U18 that kids get drafted to the CHL

I'm not sure on CHL draft rules. If it is as you say Jan to Dec. Then the Jan Feb kids will always be oldest throughout juniors but should matter less when you aren't playing your age anymore.

I started looking at ages about 2 years ago. I don't think it's a big difference. I certainly give a little edge to someone who is May or later over a Jan bday of similar prospects.

I’m not sure on CHL draft rules, but minor hockey is Dec 31 cut off. So my son who is a March birthday was almost always the biggest in his age cohort. Too bad he had no ambition or talent played organized hockey for 14 years and can barely skate backwards.

😄 ahh what can ya do.

The reason why I started looking into age was because it was common thing among players I was missing on in previous drafts.

Sure well Gretzky was traded. Of course any of our trash can be traded if another team wants to overpay

We might be stuck with Boeser until he’s a FA. You only get a great return if you are trading a great player. Unless you’re dealing with Jim Benning.

Is this guy cherry-picking players to support his narrative?
I am sure, if someone wanted to, they could find a few examples of players born in November, compare them to a few players born in December and come up with some graphs and pie-charts that would tell you that you shouldn't take players born in November, because of that information.
