Okposo is likely to be captain. They're not trading their captain at the deadline - Hank Balling
Girgensons is likely to be alternate captain.
They're not trading their alternate captain at the deadline.
Okposo (C)
Girgensons (A)
Dahlin (A)
Tuch (A) 1st alternate for alternate captain
I'd be surprised if okposo was named captain, without an extension....
Sure, you can wait until after the season, but letting everyone know kyle is the present and future, if very "he likes buffalo" and "we like you kyle" |

I think they'd be willing to trade one, not both. Imagine getting a pair of firsts for them. And then signing Kyle to a 2x2. That would be a slick move. - TheSabresTaco
I think in any year there is no way that either of them gets a first. I think given the hype around next year's draft it is even less likely to be so.

He's the only Buffalo sports figure (to my knowledge) who lives here year round. He's obviously a huge family man and it's a safe bet he has no interest in leaving them to play elsewhere in the playoffs. Okposo will play here as long as he wants and then he'll retire. - Hank Balling
If the Sabres are out by the deadline, and the islanders are making a playoff push.....
Trade okposo and he would need to live out of a suitcase for 6-8 weeks.
1 hour plain ride...... |

Trading zemgus 1%
Trading okposo .25%
Something like this? - Boss34
I'd say more like 25% and 6% respectively.

If he wants to, sure. I just doubt he would want to be away from his family. The Sabres have also made 20+ draft selections the past two years and they already have 3 second-round picks in '23. I'd expect a mid-season extension more than a mid-season trade |

From the same article:
"Do the Sabres put Kulich in Rochester now that Ruotsalainen is gone? There's a development opportunity there, but the clock would start on his entry-level contract"

He is slide rule eligible is he not?

That's fair and I kinda agree.
If for some reason this season is a stealth tank or is another straight up beatdown, both may want out.
I think the Sabres finish with 88-92 points and are "in the hunt" at the deadline IMO.
Trading our leaders would be a sign of giving up.. 🤔 |

I'm sure kyle is a great family man. You can tell he's a great guy.
Seams fiscally smart to sign these "leaders" to reasonable contract extensions.
Lean and efficient
Okposo 3 years 12 million
Girgensons 5 years 11. 75 million
🙂 |

Right. You'd think after watching Quinn + JJ slide that the rule would be fresh in everyone's mind and CF makes it clear with a quick glance. Sloppy and lazy, not a good combo.

Fiscally smart would be walking away from both of them, not overpaying and giving way too much term. Any extension should be very modest.

Hopkins just got 6 for PEDs. Though it was an actual PED, not just a diuretic masking agent. |

Like it or not, the severity of the issue is only part of the equation. The Union no doubt argued that while Watson did something wrong, we still haven't proven exactly what or how bad (legally speaking). Unfortunately, common sense isn't enough here. Whereas in Hopkins' case, there's no doubt about what he did. Time served is also a factor here. Remember, Watson already sat out the entire year last year. And while the public may not believe that's enough, good luck getting a Union to go along with it, unless one of the women happed to be the wife of a higher up in said Union.

Leadership is expensive.
We're getting a bargain price moving forward.
1. Want to be here
2. Inexpensive
Both fit the main objectives |

$5.3M per for 3 seasons for 2/3 of your 4th line is a bargain price?
You're giving term to a guy who will be 35 when he signs the deal and another guy who will be turning 30 in the middle of the first season of his new deal.
That doesn't sound like a great idea. |

What makes you say 4th line leadership is expensive?
Are you really making the case that they've had strong leadership for the last 6 years and we just haven't noticed?
