I will keep my seats for now, but if the PSL'S come in where I am expecting I am not paying double for them.

I think part of the long term rebuild aligns with asking for a new arena downtown. Probably 2 or 3 years.

They are testing the market, or were at one point.
Spending $ on studies ect.

I wonder what they would do.
I read an article a while back on the design/construction of the existing buildings...as is building for the area, and the structure around the area. Was designed that way to be cheaper.

I'd be shocked to see them moving away from the existing area after building that up. Maybe a significant refurbishment onsite? Or maybe near site new build.

Yeah, the Sabres arena was bare bones with no extra bells or whistles arena wise. So somewhere out there has to be the plans of what the current area could’ve been.

Cheapest possible arena at the time of it being built. Who the heck said that. I think Larry Quinn

The Pegulas quietly bought a majority of the buildings adjacent to the arena in the cobblestone district, with the exception of that old blacksmith building owned by the guy who says he's building a 75 story high-rise there (yeah right). There's also the old Perry projects nearby.

Refurbishing is definitely the way to go imo, especially since the DL&W terminal will be connected to the arena via the skybridge within the next two years when that project finishes. Having a mass transit, enclosed light-rail stop at the arena is super nice

Proximity to skating, curling, etc. at canalside makes the location a natural fit. The arena needs a massive overhaul though, and it may necessitate the team playing in Rochester (which has a boondoggle of arena problems in its own right) or maybe even the Pegula Penn State complex while the work is completed

I'm in construction. Boondoggles are part of the lexicon as much as rim joists or helical piles

Yes, that is exactly what we needed - an overpaid guy that won't be around when it is time to compete. There is a reason why nobody was willing to pay for the guy.

This whole "they aren't trying to win" narrative is stupid. They are trying to grow their prospects.

Care to explain to me how giving him 1 year 10 million would have been bad? Trade him at the deadline for a 1st as so many tankers love.

I guess he would have stopped the development of casey Fitzgerald

You are using them wrong.

I am a dirt engineer and I have to recommend them like 50 times a year. I hate them too

I don't understand why they let the current arena decay so badly. Probably as simple as politics and $.
- Lunaion

My guess:

Pegula's spent some big $ on the harbor center and downtown in general, probably feel like some public funding would/should be neccessary.

Also, they lease the arena , so upgrades wouldn't be just their choices?

I cant see a complete tear down and replace, but most likely a (full season off) rebuild.

Place is really just dirty and outdated. The jumbotron is really old and would be a great starting upgrade.

Wide screen TVs have dropped in price considerably 🤔

The biggest problem with renovating the arena is how to make the play on the ice visible from the 100 level concourse like it is from the 200 level concourse. I'm sure it's doable, it's just gonna cost beaucoup bucks and it'll take more than an offseason to prosecute the work

I really enjoy the 200's.

The 100's have plenty of blind spots. Especially with the netting and inadequate jumbotron.

They send out plenty of season ticket questionnaires.

They ask about in seat service, expanded group "hang out" areas and possibly having a gambling area.

We laugh about the "casino style lounge area" in the 200's.

Yeah, my big qualm is that if you're in line buying a slice of pizza anywhere other than the 200 level, you have to watch the action on a 13" tv screen cuz you can't see the ice

They've been in the same struggle with Rochester about Blue Cross arena for a decade. The city won't sell it, and the Pegulas won't put money into it without owning it. That's why batt insulation is falling off the ducts and it generally looks terrible.

I haven't heard anything about the Pegulas trying to buy KBC from Erie County though

Has it ever erupted publically? The Rochester stuff has popped up in the media going back to the Ted Black days. I dont know the lease details in Buffalo but I assume Poloncarz is holding the aces to prevent relocation

The Sabres are definitely operating like a team looking to sell.

I think the pegulas own the Sabres and Bill's for generations.

I wouldn't even want to speculate long term.
