It’ll most likely be one or the other. I actually think it’ll be Chara. He has been curiously quiet about announcing his retirement. I expect them to announce another year of watching him getting smoked out there.

My guess is anybody willing to take Bailey wants either a 1st or a pretty good prospect attached which the isles can't do. Lou won't budge on moving Varly which I see both sides to the argument and for the record I would have moved him and taken my chances that Sororkin will stay healthy. That leaves Beau which like Chiefs said makes us older and slower if they move him. I'm curious to how this plays out and I wouldn't rule out them wanting more of a veteran as the 6th instead of Salo or Aho
- Vukota

I also would have rolled the dice and moved Varly. I would also run with Salo as 6th dman. It's been a painful wait for sure.

Halfway through last season at the very latest it was obvious we were out of it. I’m sure at that point he knew he was canning trotz as well.
- Cptmjl

I dunno. There are some accounts that the exit interviews lead to the final determination. Supposedly some players expressed dissatisfaction with the system. If he had decided that Lou was gone at the midpoint, he could have canned him then, giving Lambert an audition while allowing the younger guys more ice time.
Either way, it was clear Barry felt Josh was a needed commodity in the team

Chara or Greene back as the 6th dman would be really tough.

My two cents: if this Kadri rumor is legit and he’s brought in, that signing can’t be done in a vacuum. There must be other moves made in conjunction with it, and not just for salary dumping purposes.

Kadri adds a fifth center to the roster. Icing a center to the wing is stupid, especially if you make it Barzal, who might not want any part of the wing in a contract year. The isles have garbage on the wings. Moving one of the centers to make a space for Kadri and bringing a wing back in the seal is essential.

I doubt Barzal or Nelson are traded. Cizikas isn’t going to be moved to put one of these guys as a 4th line center. Pageau makes the most sense. The question is what’s his value? He’s signed at $5M per for a couple more seasons. He is good on face offs, special teams and solid all around. Can he be part of a package to snag a legit scoring winger?

The isles still need another bottom pair D-man as well. I would think that guys like Mayfield, Bailey, Varly, Pageau and Beau are all susceptible to being moved to facilitate a move for Kadri and to remake the roster a bit to try and contend again.

Oddly enough it was Chara who finished the season with the best +/- (8) behind Pelech (20). I think Chara was awful through the first half of the season but he did seem to recover through the final stretch. I think we could do better, but have no problem with him as a third pairing guy provided his partner has an extra gear

Barry’s system seems to be tough and takes a toll. It’s not fun in terms of offense for sure.

Bailey had a nice couple of playoff runs outside the Tampa series. Just never understood the love Isles coaches have for him. He does some nice things but also has his share of negatives.

Just makes sense to me to give Salo a long look this year. Islanders run into trouble not giving looks to young players and then they need to overpay on vets and they are in Cap trouble.

If Chara plays a regular role on the bottom pair for the entire season and is utilized similar to how trotz used him we will miss the playoffs again. There I said it.

Edit; I’ll also add chara’s +/- has a lot to do with his defensive partner scoring 51 points last season.

Well if he is used like Trotz used him he won't be a bottom pair guy. If they actually use him as a 6th I don't think he would be that terrible playing 12-13 minutes a night plus some PK time. He is still effective on the pk and still smashes faces in

I wanted Z to win the Cup with the Isles so bad last year. Isles are in such a strange place. I just do not feel they have another long playoff run in them as of now.

You’re not wrong but Trotz dispensed ice time a bit more evenly among the pairings which was my point. Nobody was playing 12/13 mins a game consistently. Mayfield averaged 17:24 a game last season as an example. That guy plays over 17 minutes a night in our division we’re not making the playoffs I don’t give a shat who scoffs at that prediction I think you’re insane to think otherwise. Chara averaged 18:44 last season btw

Noah Dobson is legit....even at that young of an age. His upside is tremendous.

I know they are both young but I have no issue if Romanov is paired with Dobson.

Might be the best top 4 defense since Aucoin, Jonsson, Hamrlik and Niinimaa

Should be really good. I’m really not concerned with the goalies and defense at all.
