Maybe with the forward lines we have now hopefully the team will be in the Offensive zone more often then the Defensive zone so just play
Chabot Thomson
Sanderson Zub
Holden Hamonic
Instead of giving up our prospects 🤙
At trade deadline
Trade Holden and Hamonic
Bring up JBD and Heatherington for 3rd pairing 🤷‍♂️

I'm okay with all of this. I'm okay with Sens not making a move and seeing what they have, especially in Thomson and JBD.

But Zaitsev and Brannstrom are not on this list. And if Zaitsev is on this roster at the start of the season, he will get played. Not only because he is the coach's pet but also because PD will want him to showcased in case any teams have injuries and need a D. Or to make him a more attractive waiver wire option when they finally get around to putting him on waivers.

But, again, ppl making a lot of assumptions about Sanderson and his game being good enough for an opening night roster spot.

Tyler played with the 67s after he left BU. 24 games.

I'm pretty sure he meant that Chris Neil scored quite a bit in junior... not just that he at some point scored points in junior. Neil was a 6th round pick, and was considerably more productive than Boucher in his D+1 year. And while it's true that power forwards can take additional time to fully develop, it's not usually evident at 18/19 that there are major offensive limitations. That said, it's hard to believe the season could have gone much worse for a player already burdened with first-round expectations.

I found this video to be a pretty good account of the better moments from NCAA/OHL last year...

You can definitely see the physical upside and intimidation factor, and his skating is good enough to project to a possible 3rd line role... but I'm not sure there's more than maybe 15G-15A upside at the NHL level. Objectively, that's not good value for a #10 overall pick, but if they can get a physical bottom-six winger on an affordable contract for the whole prime of their career, he could be a serviceable player, and maybe even a blue-collar fan favorite. But he's not Tom Wilson v2.0... more of an Austin Watson v2.0.

Thomson should've been a full time NHLer last year but he was waiver exempt....JBD will be top 6 D as well....

DJ played JBrown and Zaitsev when our youth should have been given the NHL experience with no expectations.

So I have had a few chats with scouts/NHL personnel tonight regarding Jakob C. It really is now at a point that both AZ and Jakob are willing to move on as soon as possible. So PD needs to get this deal done, it's beyond clear that Jakob wants to be in Ottawa now. I was told PD has looked into Christian Fischer as part of the deal now.....big winger....who played for DJ in Windsor.....I wrote last year, PD looked into acquiring him....so this isn't the first time that PD has expressed interest.

LA is also said to be calling AZ about Chychrun. They could offer a nice package too.

We have PO Joseph coming in and Ty Smith, recently acquired from NJ. I have faith they’ll be good for the Penguins moving forward.

Dont know much about Ty Smith, so I believe you that he's ready. I have watched PO Joseph, he looks to be a keeper for sure!

Fischer RFA, player control for another year. Crouse's arb date is August 8th, going to be very interesting here....something has to shake out!

AZ is on the clock.......they need to figure something out on the trade front if they don't want to get stuck with what he is awarded

So Andrew G gets 3 x 5.8M AAV for Calgary......the Flames have 1.2M left in cap space.....Lucic comes off the books after this year at 5.25M......one has to think they Flames need to trade a dman.....at some point this season if they are going to re-sign Weegar or Huberdeau.

I assume they will move Tanev. Or, would they move Weeger if they thought he was not open to signing for a longer term?

This miss on Cole Sillinger for sure can't be seen as anything but a failure no matter what Pierre Dorion says in the media. I get that is was a rough draft and it was tough to get a good look at any of the guys but how do you not grab Sillinger who can do anything Boucher could do and then score as well.

I'm still baffled at what the Ottawa team was thinking. The pressure they have put on Boucher is only going to hurt the kids potential as well not help him get there. This is what does not seem to be considered by taking massive reaches at the draft table in round 1.

You've taken a potential B student and told him he now needs to be an A student. That is the expectation. Now because the student can't risk showing that he only has the potential to hit B at max and be considered a failure for it he will almost intentionally only work for C or not work at all because it is better psychologically to have people value the potential you could have been rather than be disappointed in the success that was the peak of your potential.

Boucher was always going to be a half decent prospect taken in the 2nd or early 3rd round that would be great depth addition for the 3rd or 4th lines adding grit to a team. Drafting him high enough to be a 1st or 2nd line potential player is likely crushing his spirit especially with the media attention around the reach by Ottawa and Ottawa's open faith in him in the media.

I find it very telling that he almost immediately after being drafted he fails to live up to even reasonable expectations for a player of his caliber by struggling at Boston U where they highly value players like him.

One would have to think there'd be a bidding war if Chychrun was being delt.

The Sens are in a good position if Arizona wanted a futures package since they've been loading up on picks so much, would another team be able to beat Ottawa's offer that would realistically look to trade for him?

I could have seen Formenton included if they were looking for a young roster player before the WJ mess.

Looks like there will be 6 Senators prospects who will be playing in the upcoming WJC this summer, across 4 different teams...

CAN - Greig, Ridley (1st-2020)
CAN - Ostapchuk, Zack (2nd-2021)

USA - Kleven, Tyler (2nd-2020)

FIN - Jarventie, Roby (2nd-2020)
FIN - Merilainen, Leevi (3rd-2020)

CZE - Hamara, Tomas (3rd-2022)

Not a bad mix of prospects, especially when you consider that 5/6 players were drafted in the 2nd/3rd rounds, plus they've graduated the likes of Stutzle, Pinto, Sanderson, Bernard-Docker, Thomson, and Sogaard in the past 1-2 years.

Now that teams are giving huge contracts to RFAs coming off the entry level contracts, it is imperative that contending teams develop quality 3rd and 4th line players within their own system. Next year there will be a lot more than Kadri and Klingburg running around looking for new deals. The way teams are being structured, young guys making $1m and less will become precious. Every team will want upwards of 10 guys on a 23 man roster making in the $1m range.

People that think Alex DeBrincat isn't worth 8.5-9.5m...... only 9 forwards played more mins than him last season (Draisaitl, McDavid, P.Kane, Connor, Scheifele, Miller, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Marner)

Next 3 after him: Kopitar, Matthews, OV

unless they bridge Stutzle, they cannot keep DeBrincat, OTT does not have the room for 9M Cat and a 8+M Stu

Someone tweeted this out. Goes along with your line of thinking and how notable names arent getting deals. And that you will have to develop 3rd/4th liners on ELC's faster and faster.

Assuming the Nazem Kadri contract is tucked away in a drawer somewhere on Long Island, here's the remaining notable #NHL UFAs:

Evan Rodrigues
Sonny Milano
Paul Stastny
Phil Kessel
Pernell-Karl Subban
