I get why people think Groshans was a slight overpayment. However maybe that was the only name the Marlins wanted. Also the division had all made moves, some made more than one so the Jays could have felt pressure.

I have decided that the value is in the PTBNL. I have also decided that this is Sixto Sanchez.

All is right in the world for me again until the PTBNL is not someone of value.

I said the same thing above - this year is not helping him.

This is two guys from our system I can immediately think of - Groshans and Martin - who have come back from injury and not been able to find their power through the adjustments they've been making. Is this a normal thing that just happens to prospects, or is there some problematic approach to the hitting instruction going on in A/AA ball?

Agreed - and the prospect rankings that are being quoted are from before the season and based on limited AB's. Basically they're a year old now.

I was never a big fan of his resume (limited power corner guy) and I'm just trusting that the Jays system has a good read on his declining status. There have been big 'power' doubts about him from day 1. Slow exit velocity blah blah ....no power.

He's not on any of the mid-season top 100's and Keith Law and others had some Jays prospects pass him by this year.

Hearing of Jays players disappointed to see them not doing anything yet (and probably seeing the first place Yankees get better). Still 4.5 hours to go however and they are working on pitching, and maybe a lefty bat.

If Kikuchi could just consistently throw strikes, he'd be pretty damn good. Was pretty good in his last start (or the one before, don't remember).

I like Stripling. Kikuchi is just too wild. Too many walks. Too many home runs. Too many hit batsmen.

If you look at Berrios' nightmare numbers, they are like Kikuchi's.

The thing is that Berrios has had a rough year, but he looks like he's getting it together - and we know he has the stuff and the history of doing it to expect that he can do it.

There's nothing about Kikuchi in his 4 major league years that indicates he's anything other than what we're seeing. I just don't think there will ever be consistency in his game.

The Minnesota Twins are finalizing a deal to acquire right-hander Tyler Mahle from the Cincinnati Reds, sources tell ESPN. Two hitting prospects and one pitching prospect are expected to be the return once the deal gets through medical review.

Have you see the list of players they had and have traded in the last few years? It's actually insane.

I like Stripling. Kikuchi is just too wild. Too many walks. Too many home runs. Too many hit batsmen.

Stripling is an absolutely perfect guy to have in the bullpen come playoffs. Can go multiple innings of relief. He'll probably play a big part, if the Jays do well in the playoffs.

If somehow Kikuchi could locate his pitches consistently, he could work himself into a similar role.

I'm glad Berrios is finally looking to be turning a corner. Gonna need him to keep up with Manoah and Gausman in the playoffs.
