I'll probably need to find the game on the computer, then. Baseball deadline isn't until 6pm, anyways.

What's his position and what not? He a big forward?

- GreatGigInTheSky

LW. Looks like Elias Pettersson. Rail thin, super smart and really crafty.

I am not up on baseball prospects like hockey prospects, so looking at Fangraphs - Povich is Minnesota's 22nd ranked prospect (not in the top-100 or anything), and Cano is their 38th ranked prospect. The other two weren't ranked in the system.

The Jays should be trying to load their BP as well. Get a few closers - or a few solid BP guys. They overwork the pen as it is, and the pen has its unreliable guys like Richards, Thornton or Banda - swapping in Lawrence, Beasley, Gage, Castillo or Hatch as the need arises . . .

I'm listening to Blair and Barker. Blair said " Minnesota traded 4 minor league pitchers for him. 1 of them is a prospect, the rest are minor league pitchers."

If that's the going price for a bullpen arm, Moreno should never be offered for anything short of a Soto or the like.

Getting some bullpen help should be something the Jays could easily do and I probably expect them to do. Word is they're looking for bullpen arms and a starter, yeah?

The Jays were in the talks. That in and of itself tells you that they were/are willing to offer their top prospects. And Washington wanted Bo+ them, apparently. Yeah, Washington turned down the Padres offer, but the deal that gets it done in the end will in all likelihood, be a bit above it. Which still doesn't equal the reported ask from the Jays. So yeah, they said no. But should 100% stay in contact until the end because the ask will lessen.

And no. I won't, and no one else should, forget about that. Every team willing/trying to trade for him is planning on him being around long term. Makes no sense otherwise. And Washington should also factor that in.

- GreatGigInTheSky

I disagree on the second part of the post. No team has to look at it long term. He can walk himself to UFA and sign with whomever has the deepest pockets.

I personally agree with Steve Phillips. Jays move Moreno + whatever else prospects and take a run this year and next year and the off season before his final season on the contract you trade him for 80% ish of what you gave up for him in the first place.

In the Juan Soto sweepstakes, sources say 3 finalists remain -- the #Padres, #STLCards, and #Dodgers.

The #BlueJays inquired in July but are not actively discussing Soto with the #Nats.

They could make a good trade still and this will still go down as a failure. No excuse to not even be in the discussion, if this is true. Shame.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Didnt think the jays would be heavily involved in talks with for him

We don’t know how far above the Padres offer or how far below the demand of the Jays. We’ll see where it ends up.

I don’t know why you think Washington won’t face him for decades. Boras will bring him to market when his contract is up and there’s no reason to assume he doesn’t end up in the NL even on the Mets.

- Canada Cup

For sure. We'll see what he gets and I'm willing to bet it'll be nowhere near their ask from the Jays.

He very well may end up going to free agency. I'm saying that shouldn't factor into Washington's decision. The only things they should be thinking of is getting the best return and hopefully trading him somewhere where there's the possibility of not facing him every few weeks for a decade.

Because there's a really good chance that if a team is willing to trade their farm for the guy, they're willing to shell out the $$$ to keep him around. And they got over 2 years to get it done.

You can’t lump all relievers together. Justin Holl is an NHL defenceman but presumably the price for trading for him (any day now) is going to be different than for others. Lopez is an arm, nothing too special.

And no, you don’t trade Moreno for just an arm. But there might have been a trade for Skubal and some of the Tigers’ good relievers.

Next years draft really is gonna be stupid good, eh?

Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli, and Sale now. Good year to suck, I guess.

Yeah, I think so. I'd like to see a replacement for Tapia/Zimmer - and it's funny, but while I do like Bichette, if he was the key piece in any Soto deal, I'd help him pack his hair products.

Right now it's looking pretty darn great. 2 "generational" guys. A ton of players performing at top-5 pick levels in their domestic/international leagues through the top-15. Let alone the players who will get better and rise in the ranks.

Not a bad thing to do at all, if an extension can't be reached.

I was saying Washington needs to look at it from the angle that they shouldn't want to face him a lot. And that they need to be thinking that the team getting him also wants to keep him long term and are willing to do it.

That I agree with. I would rank take the best you can get over facing him but it's shocking we haven't heard rumours of the Nats calling the Jays back and lowering the ask. Maybe the Jays aren't taking the call

For sure, but the guy was still a closer. Milwaukee traded a top closer in the game and got 2 prospects that ended up as #8 and #10 in their system. In no world should Moreno be traded for anything less than the best, since he's the best prospect.

Lopez is slightly tricky because he's bound to be coloured by his failure as a starter. He has always been a much more effective relief pitcher - and this year his relief numbers are excellent. I read what you said about perhaps the larger park playing to his favour in Baltimore - and while he has been equally effective at home and on the road, he's given up more homers on the road (2 in 20 innings vs 1 in 28), but it's nothing so drastic that I would have hesitated plopping him in our pen over a guy like Richards.

I agree with everything, really.

Tapia is playing very good right now, but I can't see him keeping it up, so I'd try to upgrade him and even put him in the trade, since his stock will never be higher. And yesterday was the 1 month anniversary of Zimmer's last hit.

I love Bo, too, but I'd make him part of the trade. But if he was in it, then Moreno shouldn't be. Bo alone is most probably gonna be worth more than the entirety of other teams trades. MLB's #1 prospect shouldn't be in it as well.

Absolutely. And I feel like the Jays can really offer them both things. The best offer AND the possibility of him playing a long time in the other league.

I hope the Jays aren't that petty, to not answer the phone.

I'm hoping it's all a ruse, and the Jays are getting it done with them right now.
