Jack Campbell has pedigree and is easily the best option the Oilers have had in net for a long long time.

Will he perform? We will see. Any goaltender is a gamble these days outside a very select few.

I do really like his success rate behind an extremely overrated (defensively overrated) Toronto team. Both teams have suspect team defense and I like the chances of Campbell improving the Oilers with his play coming from a similar situation.

Pedigree maybe, but only 120 NHL starts at his age isn't exactly comforting, especially at a 5x5 cost. Big risk, considering our D still needs work.

If he doesn't let in 2 goals in the first 6 shots every second game though, I'll be happy with that.

Kevin Lowe’s retirement will have zero impact ( pos or neg) on the ice. People have been clamouring for his removal for years because they think otherwise. Morons.
He did okay as a GM, got us to the Goddamned finals . Made some good trades and signings but he struggled with the tear down and rebuild . I sometimes wonder if he hired Tambo to be the scapegoat for the rebuild ( not that it mattered, he still got poop on) and his 2 tier fans comment was a poor comment to make to the blue collar Oilers fans that spend their hard earned money a few times a year to see terrible hockey, but the mother (frank)er has 6 rings and actually does know more about winning in the NHL than every poster on Hockeybuzz and stat geek combined.
Overall I’m pretty happy with his tenure as a player and executive, the good far outweighs the bad ( 7 trips to the finals, (frank) off) . Only thing I regret is that he didn’t find that barn to scrap Brian Burke in. No matter what Burkie says, or tough he talks, Kevin Lowe would have beat his fat ass from pillar to post and turned that goof Into hamburger. It wouldn’t even be close.

He has not had any direct involvement in the on ice ops for a long time but he still had a big influence through his recommendation of Bob Burger and Chiapet.

I can't believe that Chia got another job in the hockey business after what he did here. What an unmitigated disaster that was.

But yet it will be good for the Oil to move on from Lowe and the 'boys club' mentality. Good things are coming.

Just more proof that the nhl is nothing but an old boys club. Countless people out there could do these guys jobs far better but will never get a chance.

Kevin Lowe was a decent GM. MacT however was brutal. Up there with Tambellini. Craig McTavish's biggest blunder as GM (and there were many) was firing Kreuger and bringing in Eakins. Everyone on the team regressed after that move.

Your evaluation of GM’s is as bad as your takes on everything else. Yes Eakins was a fail. But most of Mact’s personnel moves were good. He refused to trade any of the young guys for peanuts. He drafted Nurse and Drai ( it was Mact that arranged for the trade of LD to Kelowna so he could play there on an memorial cup contender). Trade MPS for Perron then later traded Perron for a first ( that Chia wasted ). Brought in Boyd Gordon who was a solid bottom 6 C. Brought in Hendricks that added needed grit. Mishandled Petry’s extension and ended up trading him for less than he should have. He made good moves and bad. Your takes are always completely moronic though so it’s no surprise at this point.

I too was shocked when Campbell didn't resign with the leafs because they are indeed the center of the hockey universe and every player who has ever laced up the blades wants to play for the leafs.
