Oliver Kylington, signed 2x$2.5M by CGY, is an offensive defenceman who unlocked his strong transition skills on a pairing with Chris Tanev last season. #Flames

I thought he would get closer to 3M for a multi year contract. |

So here's a lineup I just did for fun. I put more emphasis on chemistry than most, so I thought what if we held on to what was working. Namely the Hughes / Tanev combo ... Toffoli on the 1st line for the (albeit) short time we had him and the 4th line that showed some gumption last year.
This lineup really doesn't take much hindsight and just focuses on what was working. I have no idea the cap but pretty sure this would be under even with a Miller re-signing. I would have never signed Holtby (Demko was ready imo). We signed Tanev so couldn't afford Schmidt deal avoiding that fiasco, and likely wouldn't have tried to sign the poor man's Tanev replacement in Poolman. Still let Marky go, so could have afforded to keep Toffoli. I don't know how much foresight one would have needed to not sign an incredibly injury prone player with long covid in Sutter, as much as I like him and personally and feel bad for him.
I'm not a huge fan but heard we were in on him so I put Klingberg in with the OEL money. Obviously this means we would have suffered through the final year of Loui and all those plugs. Not sure if Richardinson would have been able to be signed in hindsight, but that's where i'd hope for an upgrade anyway.
Chemisty / Hindsight lineup
Miller Pettersson Toffoli
Pearson Horvat Boeser
Podkolzin Richardinson Hoglander
Motte Lammikko Highmore
Hughes Tanev
Myers Klingberg
Rathbone Schenn
Demko

Welcome back from your coma. Things have changed since your accident... Toffoli and Tanev left for free agency... There's a new management now. They cut Lammikko and Highmore and traded Motte. Klinberg has signed with the Ducks... and Anybody is no longer a Canuck. They signed Martin to back up Demko instead.... There's also some new Canucks that are missing from your lineup like Kuzmenko, Mikheyev and Lazar. Also there was a trade that brought in OEL and Garland... they will be in the line up...
Not sure I understand the hindsight post concept in all seriousness though... |

Haha fair enough ... a slow time at work waiting on others.
I tried to explain in the 2nd paragraph. It would be a lineup for this upcoming year had we gone in some of those different directions (signing tanev, toffoli ... not trading for OEL, Schmidt, not signing holtby) which is also why no Kuz, Mikey, Laz. I don't think it's too far fetched ... probably some holes. It was just off the top of my head. Again ... killing time, go easy haha.

Not sure why Canucks Todd Harvey was scouting the Canada game today, they weren't playing Sweden or the US. |

OK damn, I get it haha. It's a hypothetical. It's august, what can i say. We certainly have enough fantasy line combos based on usually unrealistic trades we hope for. That direction / lineup is at least something that was moreless achievable if they wanted it. Really just based on the direction of one summer.
Anywho, ya'll left out the most pivotal piece ... the third sedin steve bernier! |
