All-Star is a popularity contest. That's bunk and we both know it.

He is fast and a decent base stealer and he can play numerous positions - which is good - but he has a low OBP and a below average OPS+. CC notes that he has improved of late - and this is true. Month-over-month this year he has gotten better.

Hopefully he keeps rolling, but the numbers on him so far this year aren't impressive, and his numbers year over year since 2018 have been in descent. He's also a right-handed bat, when the key thing everyone knew we wanted was a left-handed bat.

AS or not he had better than good numbers at the plate in every year he played regularly since 17' until this year. If he has pulled a Muzzin and suddenly died then alright but assuming there's still juice in that body he's potentially a big improvement at 2B and a bit of coverage for Springer in CF.

I think springer needs to rest a bit, the addition the jays made today should help with that.

The thing with it is that it's a user poll. So it's heavily influenced by respondents' favourites rather than respondents' actual beliefs.

Merrifield is hitting .240 with an OBP of .290. His best year is 5 years in the past, and there's been a notable descent in performance since then. Nothing wrong with having him as a bench guy, but he's a spare part.

Agree, he replaces .107 hitting Zimmer, not any regular. He stole 40 bases last year. Atkins had a lousy day.

If you think about it, teams win Cups with middling goalies who had a good run, but the same can't be said of centres, or quarterbacks, pitchers...it's more important to have the best centre than the best goalie

That's why the most valued picks are always forwards.

Atlanta acquired Iglesias for Davidson and Chavez. That's like acquiring an ace closer for a bag of peanuts. Now he gives up too many home runs, but still - he'd be good in the pen.

Syndergaard went for a guy who was once a #1 overall, but fell out of the top-100 in 2018 after only one year of being touted. He's in his third year of being terrible. The other guy is a roster spot.

Maybe they didn't value these players at all, but there is no reason they couldn't have gotten them with literally no risk to our future.

to be fair, Iglesias hasnt been great this year. era+ of 100, and War .2..pretty meh

The Jays also already had made the move for Bass and Pop and i think Bass has the best stats of any reliever traded yeserday, or at least one of the best.

Also, Mitch White has been decent, pretty much better than Syndergaard, but the differnce is nobody has heard of him.

The made the moves most people wanted, just different players. Will see how it works out.

He's not an improvement on Espinal. He's an improvement on Zimmer, late inning base stealer who can come in and pinch run. He's also a right handed bat, not what was needed. Jays failed to a add a Left handed bat. Only three hitters on Jays hit from the left side. Biggio and Tapia - who are solid and Zimmer - who is putrid. Jays don't have a single left handed bat that can be called up in September either.
