Gotta give it up for CASH/Pizza. They put up some staggering numbers over their four seasons together in a tight era. Sadly could never close the deal.

If you want to go back further, when I was a kid, old timers told me the Production line of Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe and Sid Abel and later Alex Delvecchio was as good as it gets.
- BiggE

Absolutely! And in the late 60's when Frank Mahovlich joined the Wings a new Production Line was born with him, Howe and Delvecchio.

And in the 97 Final, the Legion Of Doom became the Legion Of The Doomed when they couldn't crack the Wings defense.

The Jets Hot Line of Hull, Hedberg and Nilsson were one of the best lines ever. Even the Soviet national team, with players Tretriak, Kharlamov, Petrov, Michailov, Gusev, Vasiliev and the great Federov all of whom lined up against the Hot Line, but still lost 5-3 to the Jets. The Jets trio collecting 11 points, and the Soviets were in awe of how great this line was. Hull had 3G 2A, Nilsson 2G 2A and Hedberg 2A which made the Jets to become the first club team to beat the Soviet national team.
This line was special and it was a shame that more fans never got to see them play.

The Legion of Doom line tortured the Penguins. Great line and great nickname. Tikkanen-Gretzky-Kurri was an all time great line. World class offense and underrated defense. Kurri should have won at least one Selke. Gilles-Trottier-Bossy was dominant and they played together a long time. Shutt-Lemaire-Lafleur is top five. KLM Russian line needs mentioned too. As a Pens fan I would definitely say Lemieux-Francis-Jagr may be the best ever. They were only together for about one season but that is hard to beat. If McDavid and Draisaitl could find a great third wheel they would be in the mix. Maybe Kane will be that guy this year.

1. Lemieux-Francis-Jagr - 2 Cups
2. Tikkanen-Gretzky-Kurri - 4 Cups
3. Gilles-Trottier-Bossy - 4 Cups
4. Shutt-Lemaire-Lafleur - 4 Cups

If only the Flyers had traded for Joe Reekie in 93 or 94 they could have had the best three name combo: Reekie-Ricci-Recchi

LOl thats part of the reason I liked the Haula Hall line for the Bz last year, needed another H name....but moving on, how good is a line if they dont win you a cup. #2, #3 above, is the real argument for the modern era.

Personally I didn’t watch hockey back in the Gretzky days so honestly best line I’ve seen to date is McDavid Draisaitl and insert name here.

Used to love the Briere Afinogenov line too

The best line I ever saw was Gretzky, Lemieux and Hawerchuk in the Canada Cup. There were many great NHL lines over the years and I couldn't pick one that was the best. Personally I'd be really happy to see any of the lines people have posted as their personal favourite choice playing for the Sens.

Being younger I’d go with Yzerman-Lemieux-Kariya in 2002 or Bergeron-Crosby-Kunitz in 2014

2. Tikkanen-Gretzky-Kurri - 4 Cups

This is misleading.

Cup 1...Tikkanen was playing in Finland.

Cup 2...Tikkanen was a rookie who played 3 playoff games. Still got his name on the Cup. But was never on a line with Gretzky. This was the year Krushelnyski-Gretzky-Kurri dominated the NHL. Look up the stats. Insane.

Cup 3 and 4. Yes these were the years Tikkanen played with Gretzky and Kurri. They were very, very good. But Gretzky's stats were already starting to decline. He had 183 points and 149 points in those years. Prior to Tikkanen his 5 year totals were...212, 196, 205, 208, 215. During those 5 years, Gretzky and Kurri were unstoppable. By the time Tikkanen joined the line they started to come back to this planet. Few people remember that.

LEMIEUX - FRANCIS - JAGR
- Brock Davies

Beat me to it. Three HOF with a silly amount of playmaking, puck carrying, skating , shooting, and hockey IQ. They were even better as a set than individually.

But of course you missed jack, jeff, and steve. Everytime they stepped on the ice the crowd knew there would be a show.

Arthur Fletcher died in 2005, the same year Andy Wozniewski made his NHL debut. Fletcher was the first one to market the quote, “The mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

A while ago, a friend and I made a “triple H” line on a video game. I think it was Marian Hossa, Johan Hecht, and I can’t remember the third. That was probably… late 90’s

Let me preface this by saying that the greatest line may only be a sum of parts and not a great one or two players. That said:
Old school LCB. Leach, Clarke, Barber. For the better part of two seasons this was the gold standard.
LOD. Before Renberg angered the gods and then for some reason Clarke, this was the ultimate power forward line that could also score a ton.

Seeing McDavid with Draisitle is close but I have to go with the home town.

defense, shirt grabbing and Brodeur was their game, not scoring.
- 77emac77

sure about that? In 98-99 Devils were 4th in the league in scoring. In 99-00 Devils were 2nd in the league in scoring. The following year they scored 295 goals, besting the Penguins by 14.. and going +100!! .. which is insane. That was the year the A-line was at it's peak. Then 11th in scoring, 8th, 8th.. and then we had the lockout.

yea, scoring wasn't their game. They just managed 3 Cups, 4 Cup Finals, 5 Conf Finals in 9 seasons. They did it all without scoring.

The POWER LINE of Howe, Delvecchio, Mahovlich (now dubbed "the Production Line 2")

and

The Russian Five

These are lines I have seen personally.
