Russian Five. Simply amazing to watch when they played together.
They dismantled the Legion of Doom line in a sweep of the SCF. |

I have to say.....so many lines mentioned here that would not even crack my Top Ten, but I have the benefit of having seen The French Connection, The Triple Crown.....Gillies, Bossy and Trottier and such. Don't get me wrong...some good lines from modern times have been mentioned, but we are talking greatest of all time....even the Ovechkin line does not belong here.
While the Triple Crown line gets my vote there is one more worth mentioning that has not been said yet......the Stastny Brothers. |

Shutt Lemaire Lafleur. - Reubenkincade
That or Shutt, Pete Mahovlich, Lafleur. I go back and forth.
Other one I saw that was excellent (not already listed—oops, too slow to submit):
Three Stastny brothers (though I hated them at the time). |

Espo Hodge Cashman, different era, but guys like Gretzky would have been kneecapped the way Orr was back then. - 77emac77
I was thinking of them as well with Orr on the point. Nasty.... they had 6 of the top ten scorers in 70-71.

The rookie line:
Selanne - Zhamnov - Tkachuk
Selanne with 76g as a rookie was gross. |

I hated the Habs , but they were an incredible trio, on an incredible team.

The Crash Line!
Mike Peluso-Bobby Holik-Randy McKay.
Obviously not high scoring… but fun as (frank) to watch. When they be played the Legion of Doom in the playoffs it was epic.

sure about that? In 98-99 Devils were 4th in the league in scoring. In 99-00 Devils were 2nd in the league in scoring. The following year they scored 295 goals, besting the Penguins by 14.. and going +100!! .. which is insane. That was the year the A-line was at it's peak. Then 11th in scoring, 8th, 8th.. and then we had the lockout.
yea, scoring wasn't their game. They just managed 3 Cups, 4 Cup Finals, 5 Conf Finals in 9 seasons. They did it all without scoring. - MartysBetter88

LW Sergio Momesso, C Adam Oates, RW Brett Hull saw them every home game!
would like to have seen Hull /Gretzky for a full season and a chance at 100 goals ... but Kennan screwed that opportunity! |

Definitely not one of the greatest, but that Kariya-Rucchin-Selanne line was awesome to watch. So was Hossa-Whitney-Kovalchuk |

Secord-Savard-Larmer back in ‘82-‘83 were magic to watch. Savard obviously drove the line with his skating, passing and underrated shot. Secord did the dirty work in the corners and crashed the net. Larmer was a dual threat with his shot and passing, and was the glue guy in my opinion with his outstanding defensive play. Shame Secord’s injuries kept them from being a longer term dominate line. |

The '97 Finals would like to have a word with you. The way the Wings defended as a 5-man unit, with active sticks and blocking every lane. Quick retrievals and exits. LOD had no answer for any of that. And the entire league plays like that now.
LOD would also have a hell of a time trying to navigate the modern NZ with LeClair lumbering down the wing and 88 carrying the puck w/ his head down. And getting into the zone would be more difficult since the effectiveness of dump and chase is mitigated by the mobility and puck-skill of defenders these days. And they were never very good defensively as a line, but without the two-line pass, they'd get stretched like crazy.
I'm saying all this as a Flyers fan, btw.
LOD was the best line in their specific era, but they wouldn't be as effective in today's open skating/skill game. - Tomahawk
IMO this is a bit of a joke. I watched many many legion of doom games. They were absolutely positively filthy. As good as any line I’ve seen watching the nhl w season tickets since the 70s.
The legion of doom were slow? Really? Just when did that happen. Renberg was legit fast and Lindros and Leclair could move for monster sized men.
Could imagine how good they would be without rue clutching and grabbing?
Why would gaining the zone be an issue? Todays smaller d and the absence of the redline would only help them.
I’m not saying the legion of doom is the best line in the world and no discussion is necessary, but they were incredible and would be even more dominant today.
McD would no longer dominate the scoring sheet every night.
