That must be why he had the shortest tenure of any GM since Sather.

Look at the sum of their moves. Who was better? Chia, Tambellini, Lowe, Holland?? None of them. They all sucked. He wasn’t fired because he wasn’t doing his job he was demoted because Chia insisted on full control. Another banger post there moron! |

Yup, has to be a Barrie move coming. Best case scenario is you get a decent 3rd pair defensive D guy in return, but more likely they only get cap relief. Have to sign someone to fill his spot, like a Stone or Stralman.

If there is any way to move a Foegele, maybe you could bring in a Kessel or Stastny with that money. If you want to send down Shore (which they should), maybe you can get an Erod or Motte or Milano or Larsson for close to 1 mil for this season. Hard to say who might consider signing here. - Beergu
Should simply get Pacioretty and Coghlan from Vegas for literally nothing, IMO.

You're kidding yourself if you put MacT ahead of Lowe and Holland. Lowe always iced a respectable team and got to the Finals. Holland cleaned up Chia's mess and look at the team now.
Dithers did nothing and Mr bold moves/Norris potential did exactly the same. |

MacT was just too gunshy to make any big deals. Unfortunately, that makes him one of the best GM's since Sather, as the others all made really stupid big moves. Holland got stupid lucky this off-season, with Keith retiring and Smith seemingly broken for good. I would not call that good GM'ing. Even with that, he's pushed us right back up to the cap ceiling again. |

In 2014 in seperate deal he traded away Dubnyk and Bryzgalov and brought in Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth.
that's the same year he traded away Sam Gagner for Teddy Purcell.
The same year he traded Hemsky for a 3rd and a 5th.
The same year he traded FOR Nikita Nikitin.
he gave up more to acquire Scrivens than he got back in trading Bryzgalov.

All fails. Except Hemsky. That guy sucked balls and should have been gone years earlier.
He also traded Magnus for Perron, then Perron for a first plus.
Traded Arcobello for Derek Roy
Brought in Hendricks
Signed Gordon and Pouliot ( who was good until injury)
Drafted Leon, Nurse and technically McDavid.
So yes. Some good, some bad.

It’s funny that Oildumb hates Mact so much yet the oilers are essentially Leon, Nurse and McDavid. All Mact era picks. |

I wasn't saying he was a good GM, just not the worst of the bad we have had. Also, Turds point on Hemsky is valid, he did nothing after leaving the team (too many Reghyr hits to the head by then), and it should be pointed out that both Scrivens and Fasth put up better numbers than Dubnyk and Bryz in 2014. Again, not that they were good deals, everything was bad. |

Holland brought in Kane, Hyman, Kulak and got Poolparty back on the team. Those were all key acquisitions that got us over the hump and through a couple rounds in the playoffs. Although Puljujarvi was disappointing in the playoffs.
Yes Tippett didn't work out great but he appears to have rectified that with the Woodcroft hire. |

McD and Drai were no brainers at the slots they were drafted in. |

McDavid obviously was. Drai wasn’t. There was a ton of debate. Bennett was ranked first overall and was still available. It was also Mact that arranged for Drai to be traded to Kelowna when they sent him back down. And that move has been credited by many as a key in Drai’s development. |

You are so wrong on this one. He was on the worst Oiler teams. He put up respectable numbers with no help. He did have injury problems though. Him and Smyth were the best Oiler players for a while there. When Lowe put that 06 team together he looked real good, and was money in the playoffs.

2006 was lucky. Hemsky in 2006 was ok. But remember when they publicly talked about dumping him before he became a UFA in 2011 but they couldn’t find any takers and then Lowe ended up giving him a 2 year 10 mill extension and they had that awkward presser?? Lol. He should have been gone not re-signed. |

I remember fans saying they needed to find someone to play with him. He had skill.

He had a ton of skill. But no brain. He’d skate all over stickhandling through everyone until he’d eventually get creamed by Regher or someone and lose the puck. |

Because he had no one to pass it to haha. Was Horcoff going to burry those chances? I'm not saying he was elite, but he sure wasn't garbage. Man those Oiler teams were bad.

Yeah dude was very good he just started running into injury problems around age 25-26.
By that point he was still good, just couldn't stay healthy. |

I'm confused how Mike Smith can be put on LTIR. He played every game during the Oilers 3 series playoff run, was not hurt during these games to the point of leaving a game, and no news of any injury happening to him during any of those series. The only "injuries" I see are that he will be 40 years old, and it hurts the Oilers cap. How can they get away with just LTIR'ing him like everyone is suggesting?
Sounds like a Hossa "I'm allergic to me equipment kind of thing" |

Honestly, if he was healthy, I would be happier playing Smith at 2 mil than signing Campbell at 5 mil. I think he has probably said "I'm done, body can't take another year", but isn't going to retire and lose his 2 mil. |

Holy H E Double Hockeysticks, Yammer on the top line and JP on the 2nd? Nuge isn't going to be able to carry a third line, at least put Nuge where he can actually do something, like riding shotgun to Drai. MCLeod should be 3C and JP on the wing with Holloway, if he's NHL ready. Janmark might be a better play.
That D looks aweful bad. Ceci a top pairing guy? If you are trading Barrie, the best you can is a lesser, cheaper D. That's the best you can hope for in cap relief. At worst, you get another D like Keith for the same money as Barrie.
I would be more concerned about a career backup goalie all of a sudden neding to play 60 games. Maybe Skinner can play 25, but 6-6-0 is not exactly instilling much confidence.
