Holland brought in Kane, Hyman, Kulak and got Poolparty back on the team. Those were all key acquisitions that got us over the hump and through a couple rounds in the playoffs. Although Puljujarvi was disappointing in the playoffs.
Yes Tippett didn't work out great but he appears to have rectified that with the Woodcroft hire. - Oildrum
Tippett was great at the start his record with his first year clubs speaks for itself. Made the PO's as expected. Holland has done well and turned this club into a perennial PO contender. Sure some gaffes along the way but all GM's do it. Now you have Campbell who is much more reliable than Smith. Good things are coming to EDM...soon. |

Campbell 135 career games .916 save %
Smith 670 career games .912 save %
Last year
Campbell .914 save %
Smith .915 save %
Once again you’re full of crap.

To be fair, one of those goalies played 16 regular season games last year, while the other played 49. So regular season statistics are hardly a fair comparable.
Now let's be honest here, Campbell isn’t an upgrade over a healthy Smith. But that really wasn’t the point of signing him. The point was signing a starter who is young enough to provide organizational stability for the (probable) remainder of McDavid and Draisaitl’s tenure as Oilers. Campbell can do that. And though his numbers are unremarkable, he’s still a legit NHL starter.
The Oilers didn’t lose to Colorado because Kuemper was the better goalie. They lost because Colorado was the better team. If Holland can address those depth issues, then Campbell will not be a hinderance. You just can’t reasonably expect him to steal a series. |

lol KY-Man loves him some lubricated numbers lol.
Bottom line is that at this point of both their careers Campbell is much more consistent than Smith would be moving forward.
You don't keep a 40 year old Smith with his Gaffes because he has the same save percentage as Campbell lol. Not sure KY man ever played any Hockey so it's not shocker...

Appears that I’m missing a great deal of context… 😅 - Wildschwein
KY is just a little pissy as I told him years back that Johnny and the Turtle would be gone. Plus he was warned about Tanev Markstrom and Gudbranson in the PO's but some folks just don't listen Seen all these movies before. |

I'm confused how Mike Smith can be put on LTIR. He played every game during the Oilers 3 series playoff run, was not hurt during these games to the point of leaving a game, and no news of any injury happening to him during any of those series. The only "injuries" I see are that he will be 40 years old, and it hurts the Oilers cap. How can they get away with just LTIR'ing him like everyone is suggesting?
Sounds like a Hossa "I'm allergic to me equipment kind of thing" - carsonagenic
You must have not hit 40 yet. Even minor injuries are a female dog. He may not have a serious injury but at his age everything hurts all the time.He knows he’s done and is too heat up to spend his summer getting ready for training camp. Don’t worry , Son, you’ll get old too and know exactly why he’s packing it in. |
