Why did we pay Wood 3.5?

He dont hit anymore.
He dont fight anymore.
His skill level is far lower than Zacha.

Did they feel bad he missed all season so its kind of like here ya go kid, next year you are on your own?

I would have gotten rid of Wood if there were any takers and tried to use that cash on Bratt and long term deal.

Because nobody was going to give up anything for a guy coming off hip surgery that only played 3 games last season. And Fitz talked a ton about how big of a deal it was not having him in the lineup and in the room, so he wasnt going anywhere. They paid him less than his qualifying offer, and he either proves he can return to form and be an effective 4th liner for this team to get another deal or hes gone. No big deal.

This had no affect on Bratt signing a long term deal.

Luke Hughes named the player of the game for the US in their opening game at the WJC with 1 goal and 1 assist, and lead the team with 22:15 TOI(nobody else played more than 17:34). He was fantastic.

Do we know how much bigger he got? Is he staying in college another year? College kids have a ton more time to spend in the gym than NHL players so Im curious how much more muscle he put on.

At the start of the world junior camp he apparently added 10 pounds of muscle and is now weighing in at 190. And yes he's going back go college.

Will look good next to his brother in Vancouver in a few years, just has to stay in college a few more years to be a free agent

Exactly, then Jack requests a trade.

The Devils have signed Fabian Zetterlund to a 1 year, 2-way contract. 750k at the NHL level and 125K in the AHL with 175k guaranteed. That does it for the final touches on the offseason to do list, and now we wait to see if they have a cap dump trade or not before training camp starts.

I really hope we have a quad of gems with Jack, Luke, Holtz and Nemec. They are the result of years of losing and “suffering” by the fans, so it would be realllly great if even half of them pan out to be all-stars and the other half at least middle 6/pair players.

This is one of the dumbest comments I've seen on here. Literally had 0 to do with the Bratt contract. They signed Wood for 1 year. It's not a big deal. If zacha is better than him it isn't by much

Jack is a superstar, I don't care what anyone says. He's had literally the roughest circumstances a rookie can go through. A healthy year from him and the team is gonna be 80+ points for Jack Attack.

Luke and Nemec are amazing additions. Having such a deep and well rounded defensive group is the reason the Avs were able to win a Stanley Cup with a mediocre goalie. Add in the brotherly chemistry he likely has with Jack and our PP is going to absolutely BEASTLY when he finishes with Michigan.

And there's no reason to think Nemec won't be a rock star. He's been playing in a grown man's league since he was 16. Last season he was well over a 1/2 pt per game player and went tf off in their last playoffs for 17 pts in 19 games.

People may disagree with me about Holtz but I have high expectations for him. He's only played in 9 NHL games, an INSANELY small sample size to call him a bust. His first full year playing North American hockey in the AHL he put up 51 pts in 52 games, and 26 of those pts were goals. This kid has one of the best shots (if not already the best) of anyone on the Devils. He may start on the 3rd line with Haula and Tatar, but he'll end the year in the top 6. People overhype how "bad" he is with absolutely no credible evidence to back it up.

There's a reason NJ has the 4th highest ranked farm system in the league. It's taken a long time to get here, but NJ is only a year or so from being a playoff team again. The light at the end of the tunnel is bright af!

I agree! I think Holtz will serve the team the way Mogilny did.

The advertisement on Minnesota’s jersey..

Waiting for “it puts more money in the players’ pockets”. No it doesn’t. It’s a travesty. The ice is becoming a billboard, the helmets.. okay we can get used to an advertisement on a warrior’s head.. and now the jerseys, the very representation of the team players play for and fans cheer for. Looks stupid in the NBA but looks even worse here. If there’s anything that’s supposed to be “hallowed ground”, other than the Cup.. it’s the dang sweater. Ridiculous and completely unsurprising.

You want to talk ugly jerseys? Go to the Panthers blog and see the photo of the Devils reverse retro prototype. It combines the KC Scouts colors with Devils logo. Not nearly as ugly as our black and white 3rd jerseys, but definitely a very close 2nd

Not sure why they are going the KC route. You do see some people with Scouts jerseys at games but it's more a novelty rather than remembering one of the worst teams in NHL history fondly.

Per Ryan Novo, Bill Spaulding will be the next play-by-play commentator of the Devils. He's previously called the Olympics, college hockey, and multiple other sports on NBC and ESPN.

No worries, everyone is entitled to their opinion. They look like inmates skating to me. I still prefer the original green and red, more nostalgic

It's fitting because we're all imprisoned by our fandom to this team.
