Tuch fixes a line and Asplund fixes a line. One is SOL.

Mittelstadt is going to centre two rookies and Im going to vomit.

The decision that worries me more is their refusal to move Mittelstadt to the wing to make room for a centre.

But yeah they seem to be betting a lot on the collective faceoff numbers improving enough to offset the loss.

Even under a tight budget it's fair to ask why they dropped 6+ million on olofsson and VH with the winger depth they have instead of a centre.

- Michael Ghofrani

Yup, frustrated that they put off addressing any of these deficiencies. Boss thinks I hate everyone, but it's really the composition that I find flawed.

Kind of expect Krebs at C and Mitts at LW. Have to wait and see.

Same. I guess they didn't want to spend the assets yet either but like, this would have been the perfect way to get some value out of Ryan Johnson before he walks.

career 56% face off man

Cue Stone to LTIR for the season and Bobrovsky for Martinez and next year's 1st. Being the Vegas GM is easy.

Even with Tuch on RW that top line got outplayed at 5v5 more often then not,

Ideally they are a second line that gets heavy o-zone usage and favourable lineups as Skinner and Tage are only effective in 1/3 of the ice.

Unless Tage improves defensively this year which he undoubtedly has to for that line to work

- Pegullaville

Agreed.
We dont know what level of C3nter play Tage will settle I to...which is why 8t will be fun to watch home and talk about throughout the season.
If he settles into what he displayed in Y1 of C play, he'll be a solid 2C . The Sabres will need to find their 1C then...improving significantly to be an average 1C would be great, as trying to find one if none of the youngins can grab that slot could be a significant challenge. I am hoping Savoie gets there, but right night it is still a hope.

They knew they needed one, but prioritized bringing Vinny back. Makes you question the decision making process.

When LOG struggles on faceoffs, it's not going to be as effective.

- Lunaion

Disagree.
Means they have a lot of questions that need to be answered.
It is an evaluation and development year. They have been very clear about their plans.
Just because some fans dont agree with it, doesn't call it into question.

They still don't have a goalie. This season is another assessment year. The risk in playing these positions out is devaluing trade chips, Mitts/Asplund/Olo/Bjork and Joker...assuing they have any significant trade value (they don't IMO).

Adams is still preaching bringing in players who want to be here after another draft, free agency and minimal impact trades. The roster is 98% similar for a reason, no one wants to play for Buffalo yet.

The questions for management for this upcoming season are:

1) Do the current roster players competitively fill roster spots?

2) Do said players create a team identity, chemistry on and off ice?

3) Can coaching/training/medical staff provide proper support while utilizing players to provide maxime effeciency?

4) Is this team/organization entertaining?

5) If yes to 1-4, which part(s) are the foundation to build on for long term success?

You don't have to agree, but most teams don't continue to evaluate the same players year after year. Timely decisions are important and something they've been atrocious at.

Okposo was on the ice for 860 faceoffs last season. If his lines's faceoff% drops by 5% or something, that equates to losing one extra faceoff every other game.

Basically statistically irrelevant

NST only has offensive zone fo% for some reason, but it was only 44% already

I think you're understating it. Eakin was 56% last year and Girgs is a career 45%. Dzone draws are naturally a lower %.

Okay, so one faceoff per game.

IMO teams should have a guy they put out on the highest impact situations. Other than that, faceoff % really isn't all that important to worry about. Of course you'd rather win them than lose them, but it matters so much less than the rest of the time the puck is in play

Lawrence Pilut wanted to leave the KHL when Russia invaded Ukraine. He couldn't bail on his contract, though.

Following a long negotation this spring, Pilut received his release and signed with the Sabres.

"I couldn't go back."

Skinner's problem has always been the brain cramps on defense. The one thing Kruger got right was nailing him to the bench in overtime.
