I thought we were talking about GAR WAR, although my evolving hockey membership is messed up so I can't post those numbers.
- Hank Balling

GAR makes him look just as bad, not better, as he was 62nd out of 75 goaltenders in GAR.

How do you look at last year and not compare the two?
- Lunaion

That's fair, very comparable on paper.

I think the analytics guys maybe overlook the human factors that Anderson brings to the table.

He definitely won games last season, that's a very important stat. Flutie like....

300 nhl win guy were talking about here.
Imagine the respect and help for comrie to work with a legend. Upl as well.

The Athletic has posted its survey for the performance of NHL Team's Front Office this offseason.

Time for all you ney-sayers to blast Adam's et all.

Would be interesting to see Comrie's stats, maybe with Hellybuck's (sp) for context as well.

I happen to love intangibles. They're a different piece of the overall pie. It's why guys like 35 year old Kyle Okposo are extended instead of finding the 25 year old version of him in free agency.

I think part of the point of analytics is to dispel the beliefs the some traits make a player more desirable than they otherwise should be.

IMO, 6K is not the answer to the Sabres goalie issues. The answer is the 2 headed monsters in Michigan and at Northeastern.

If it were me I would sign 6K to 3 years 1.5 a year, if he pans out great. (I highly doubt it) if not who really cares.

Then get the 2 goalies signed to contracts and have them split the season.

This GM stuff is easy....

Sabres can't wait 3yrs, they need UPL or Comrie to step up. Waiting on Levi or Portillo especially if it's 3yrs could really hurt the teams development.

Replacement value is well below average. His GSAA was -9.1. Tokarski was -7.3. Both below average.

One thing about Andy that I do think gets mildly overlooked is when he was overworked, that's when he got lit up. You could see it in games, he's (obviously) not still built to take 45 shots or go back to back anymore. Here's a list of teams he gave 4+ goals to: @SJS(5), @VGS(5), @CBUS(6), @DAL(4), Min(4), FLA(6), @EDM(6), @NYR(5), @CAR(4), @TBL(5), STL(5). Common theme, playoff teams, and generally the better teams in the league. He also had 13 games with 1 or 2 goals, some against those same playoff teams. IMO, the fancy stats and stats on him in general don't tell the full story, in that he was either really bad (I used 4+ goals and he only had 4 2/11 times) or was pretty good (If you hold a team to 2 goals or less, more often then not you'll win). 2/13 2 or less games resulted in losses, while he got 1/11 games of 4+ got a win. I don't think he'd be showing nearly as bad as he did, bot traditional and fancy if he 1) Didn't get hurt (age being a factor for sure, but wasn't his like a neck strain that resulted in migraines or something fluky?) and 2) don't rely on him to play nearly as many games 15/20 max (which I think is the plan).

Mild rant over.

If they get decent goaltending and are Top 4 D can keep the momentum from the finish and keep growing I think the Sabres can be playing meaningful games in Feb/march. But it could fall apart just as easy.
