One thing about Andy that I do think gets mildly overlooked is when he was overworked, that's when he got lit up. You could see it in games, he's (obviously) not still built to take 45 shots or go back to back anymore. Here's a list of teams he gave 4+ goals to: @SJS(5), @VGS(5), @CBUS(6), @DAL(4), Min(4), FLA(6), @EDM(6), @NYR(5), @CAR(4), @TBL(5), STL(5). Common theme, playoff teams, and generally the better teams in the league. He also had 13 games with 1 or 2 goals, some against those same playoff teams. IMO, the fancy stats and stats on him in general don't tell the full story, in that he was either really bad (I used 4+ goals and he only had 4 2/11 times) or was pretty good (If you hold a team to 2 goals or less, more often then not you'll win). 2/13 2 or less games resulted in losses, while he got 1/11 games of 4+ got a win. I don't think he'd be showing nearly as bad as he did, bot traditional and fancy if he 1) Didn't get hurt (age being a factor for sure, but wasn't his like a neck strain that resulted in migraines or something fluky?) and 2) don't rely on him to play nearly as many games 15/20 max (which I think is the plan).

Mild rant over.

So, if he wasn't old and more prone to injury (for a while last season, there was talk that he was not returning from his injury) and the Sabres had a starter they were confident in getting 60 to 65 starts out of, Anderson would look better?

Fair points. I think that's saying you aren't comfortable with him getting a starter's workload....a concern with all 4 of their G's.

I'd take 17-12 in the 29 games Anderson starts this season.

5 games over fake .500 for a less than 2 million $ nhl legend.

I'd be comfortable with that mirrored output in 2022

I mean, when people are posting charts about his play last year, so yeah. I guess the better question is does he hurt a team as a true backup playing 15/20 games, even if Comrie and UPL split the rest. I laid out the games he got scored on 4+ times. He was getting shelled most of those games against playoff teams. That's not a coincidence. He isn't going to hurt the team, or block anyone. If he gets 35-40 starts, it'll be an issue, but it'll be an issue because one of Comrie or UPL isn't a legit starter, in which case back to the drawing board anyways.

Sabres can't wait 3yrs, they need UPL or Comrie to step up. Waiting on Levi or Portillo especially if it's 3yrs could really hurt the teams development.
- Buff36

Sabre are NOT winning shat with Comrie, AARP and 6K. They will be better then last year but that because we will score more.

I think the plan would be to play the hot hand, and I just don't think Andy will provide a hot hand as at his age it just isn't feasible. One of UPL or Comrie should grab the reigns and having Andy out there without the fear of just getting killed (it'll happen it happens to every goalie in the league, even Shest or Sorokin or Vasy) on most nights is what you bring him in for.

they were 16th in pp and first in shoot out scoring percentage

both of those stats could take a dip

If your plan is for Comrie and UPL to each get 30 starts, then neither is a legit starter, right?

If both are capable of 30 starts, do you need Anderson at all?

I'm guessing their ideal plan is that UPL will show in training camp that he needs to be a split starter with Comrie, which would make Anderson only needed in case of injuries.

That would mean they'd be carrying 3 goaltenders of their 23 roster spots.

Would have you just let Anderson go, maybe to florida or retire?

Tough to preach team continuity and "you play for us, we pay you" when you dont reward the guys who do show up and act like veteran nhl players.

This is definitely a tough thing for analytics to show.

Everyone expects Anderson to miss games from.injury, it's why we have comrie and upl ready

How feasible is it for UPL to force that situation in a couple exhibition games? Barring camp injuries, I think he's a lock to start in Roch.

Anderson (+Bishop) just lets everyone know they aren't serious about trying to win this year.

Signing Anderson proved KA isnt all talk when it comes to family values/vibes around the team.

You're right, he told us exactly what he was going to do. He can't honestly tell us he was the best option to win hockey games next season.

Still think he's way too nice for this job.

sounds like Roger wants Watson out for at least a year

https://www.espn.com/nfl/...-browns-qb-deshaun-watson

Good. He deserves it. But we all know how this is going to go. Watson’s team will want 6 and Rodger will want a full year

And it will magically be 10-12 game suspension meeting in the middle

Nice guys finish last?

KA is no fool, it's part of his gee golly attitude.

He won a few trades already, drafted well.

Love the guy ☝️

If UPL looks the part in camp. I can see him starting here with comerie and anderson. Anderson can be your 3rd string guy and be in the locker room.

You know I'm firmly in a different camp. All of the significant trades he's made have been selling off his best players for futures. Those trades are a mixed bag and I don't give a lot of credit for making the picks he's acquired. Tearing it down is the easy part, he's got to take the next step to impress me.

then you would be exposing pilut or fitzgerald to waivers to keep a 41 year old locker room guy on the roster
