I have to disagree. Kids took a liking to him. Experience and leadership are key to growing a young team. and Okposo ain't gunna do it himself.

I can't speak to his off ice value or what impact that has at all on these players. He didn't do them any favours in net though, that much is a fact.

Given what we know now, the way the goalie market went and the NTC blocks, I can see why they did it. The FA market was barren in terms of good value options, they got one of the only ones. And the trade market was just too steep for where they are at right now.

It really feels like they did it so that he can tell the next goalie nice things about the organization. It sounds insane, but given the hit their rep took over the years, and the respect people have for Anderson around the league, it's not a crazy idea.

I think he'd be still unsigned today and there was no need to rush. Cost them the opportunity to grab Talbot for close to nothing.

Ottawa gave up their version of Luukkonen to get him. It went under the radar cause the other two moves they made but if the Sabres do that deal for one year of Talbot people (including myself) would've been like "lol wut?".

I also wonder if he leveraged his retirement to get the deal. Like If I don't get an offer by this date I'll probably call it quits.

I don't view Gustavsson like that.

Really? Pretty close in age, some flash in the minors, neither's established themselves as NHL regulars. Both former 2nd rounders.

Older, no longer waiver exempt, wasn't good in the NHL last year. Sogaard is on his heels and has passed him as a prospect.

I'd say it's close to UPL next season, if he struggles in the NHL, Levi signs, and Comrie has a strong year.

The waivers bit probably dings his value but even if I grant that premise, I still think Minnesota values getting him in the deal more than a 3rd rounder, which is the most I’d give up for 1 year of talbot.

Fair enough. Still would have liked to see them wait and see what options were available. Bishop + Anderson closed some doors.

I think their internal budget in terms of actual dollars was lower than the cap floor, enter bishop. Other words, not sure there were going to be other opportunities given the spending limit

The tough thing for me to accept was the need to sign him before the off-season really got started.
- Lunaion

Do you think the early signing was to let levi and portillo know they have an opening in goal very soon?

Much better, cheaper than eakin. Are his face off numbers any good?

They'll put him on waivers if he doesn't make the roster.

Just checked, career 50 percent, not great last year though. I suppose you can bet on the younger centres getting a bit better on the dot. I don’t mind if they’re bad at it, but if they’re 32nd and the 31st ranked team is like 6 percent better then they’ll have to have some serious discussions about how they manage it moving forward.

Let Peca work with them, he wasn't great early in his career, but the last 4 of 5yrs he was pretty solid 53%, sure he could teach the youngins a few tricks.

I meant on the nhl roster, like cozens and thompson who arent very good at it. I dont think he's going to the AHL with the Sabres current depth at centre.
