I like MSL.

But MSL has to develop as a coach as well, if we want this to work out.

That might be one of the most important development priorities in the organization.

How to develop a coach? (serious question)

Maybe hire a veterans as a consultant? Make him take some sports psychology classes?

Yeah, was somewhat surprised that Robidas was named the new assistant, not someone with more bench experience (you know, someone who knows the day to day management of a bench in a game, to make adjustments, etc...).

Will be interesting to watch... maybe the Habs hire Scotty Bowman (likely too old) or Larry Robinson (he is happy on St Louis) or some equivalency in some consulting capacity or something.

well the main thing for him will be learning and developing his coaching skills by himself. they could've grabbed someone with more NHL coaching experience but they opted for Robidas, which isn't necessarily a bad decision either.

I think MSL (and perhaps Habs management) did not want to have someone on the actual coaching staff that might be perceived of taking over the team or next in line for the head coach, if MSL (for some strange reason) blows it.

That is all I can think of.

I know they have full confidence in MSL, and he has shown he can motivate players and push the pace of his team on the ice, but I still think this is a missed opportunity.

I was happy when they named Robidas, he has exactly the profile that makes a great coach. He went from fringe NHL to top pair in Dallas and then back down again with hard work and dedication

Time will tell.

Don't care either way about Robidas, just surprised they went in that direction (other than they needed a coach for the defence with Richardson's departure).
