I have no idea what the owners of this team really think since they never speak on record about it. My guess: Comcast really only cares about the stadium and the bottom line revenue stream. As long as the Flyers generate a certain amount of revenue, they could not care less about the on ice performance of the hockey team.

Why have I come to this conclusion? Simple, Chuck Fletcher is still employed, even though:

His prized 5million per HC was fired before he was halfway through his contract

He gave up way too much for an inferior player (Risto) then doubled down on his mistake by extending him.

He inexplicably gave up 3 picks to acquire TDA which was a wholly unnecessary add to a team that is nowhere near contention

With the hire of Torts, they are now spending 9 million on the head coaching position of a team that is going nowhere.

After a bad season followed by a horrible season, Fletcher has done absolutely nothing to improve this team’s future outlook.

If this team had an owner that really cared, Fletcher would be on the unemployment line.

I don't need to...it's clearly explained. I can use myself as an example. I run like a 90 year old Grandmother and always have, but I have always had a naturally smooth skating stride(started skating at 5). I could skate with most players in high school and even stayed up with many college hockey players in open hockey games. It's a natural ability. These choppy skating strides for supposed NHL players are a problem that won't go away easily. They can get away with it at lower levels, but they ain't gettin away with it at the NHL level.
- Phillywhiteout

I also have a very natural skating stride. But it is no where near NHL level.

Seems Coots has "gotten away with it" from his very first season. As I said, there is a difference between being "not fast" and being "not a good skater"

There are plenty of great skaters in the NHL who arent that fast. And remember, we are talking relatively here. Fast compared to the average NHLer is still way better than a normal skater.

Brink, for example, with his wonky stride is still known for having great edge work and quickness. Foerster seems to have no problem getting around and being where he needs to be.

Strome was a lost cause and he is no longer with the organization.

You cant go on and on because there are the vast majority of players picked by this organization going way back who have no issues in skating. They are all NHL average or better. Even below NHL average is still way above you and me.

Sorry, this response does not seem coherent. I guess what I am asking is, what is the expectation of Dave Scott? I know he stated back in January he expects to be in the hunt again this season, but given the current roster and uncertainties I can't see how this is a realistic expectation. If Scott is truly sticking to what he said in January I think Fletcher is fired in February and the search for a new president begins in earnest. If however Scott has lowered his expectations to something more aligned to what we all believe will be a team that is fighting the Islanders, NJ and Columbus for last place in the Metro then I think Fletcher survives this "stabilization" period. BTW, "stabilization" is a far cry from "aggressive retool" or being back in the hunt this season.

My post doesn't seem coherent yet you reply along the same lines. Your lack of comprehension does not make my simple post incoherent. Can't make it up.

Coots has never had skating issues.

Don't mistake speed for skating issues. When skating issues are mentioned it is usually due to a wonky stride or just not being very good. Brink and Strome come to mind immediately.

Lindblom also had speed issues but what do you expect from a 5th round pick?

Other than that, who are we talking about?

edge work is as important or more than straight line speed.

Personally never have been this down on a season. They are stuck in neutral ( I am being kind). They are not taking any path to get themselves out of neutral. This is a boring and bland team. Not much to look forward to in terms of potential star players for the future. They have vets who are solid but not game changers. Younger vets who fit the same solid not game changing profile.

What I want to see:

1. Can York be a legit top 4 guy going forward.
2. Frost being 100% healthy and playing every game. Then he needs to show improved play. Need to determine what his role is going forward.
3. Same as Frost though he doesn't have the injury issues.
4. Does Sanheim and Provorov have another gear that the coaches can tap into?
5. I have no expectation for Hart. Really do not have an opinion on him as he is just the default goalie at this time.

6. Will Allison, Tanner, and the like get a real opportunity to secure a roster spot? If they do and cant beat out ZM and/or Brown then that is not good. I myself do not think they will given a fair shot.

The prospect pool has some solid players it seems. None who project to be stars or even top line players.

No trust or faith in this management team to even remotely turn it around. It will be bleak for the foreseeable future.

Management- we are going to re-tool and be competitive

fanbase- that is impossible with what the team need and the cap, we need a full rebuild

Management- we are going to be active, our new coach is Torts, he will bring structure. Ellis is on pace and will push his on ice effort in July.

Fanbase- what they hell is going on...

Management goes all the way till the end of FA, then says the obvious, we were not willing to pay the price to move out cap, we need to be patient with our kids and see what we have

Fanbase- why did you lie to us

Management- radio silence

Fanbase- we suck, we have sucked and will continue to suck, they lied about the re-tool

Reality- they ended up accidentally or not waiting and maybe rebuilding. The rest? Stringing along the fan base so at least some fans show up and watch what will be a really hard season to watch

Personally, I think speed has been an issue for this team at the forward position for a long time. As in at least the last decade. I mean, look at the two finalists this past season. The Flyers couldn't match their speed on any level. My point was that this team needs to put speed as a higher priority when drafting players to keep up with today's game. Looks like they may FINALLY be waking up as their last two first rounders apparently possess good speed. Here's hoping, but still I want them to FIRE CHUCK!

The Rangers really don’t have to put another jersey on Jacob Trouba and reintroduce him to the media because you named him captain…it’s been done before…

For some players, speed isn’t a big deal if you can properly position yourself. Couturier is normally in the right place at the right time.

Why do I see so many prospects for the Flyers that need to work on their skating? I've never seen so many players that NEED TO WORK ON THEIR SKATING! It started with Coots and has never stopped. Yes, you can improve your skating with hard work, but why don't the Flyers ever draft true speedsters? I guess they are still trying to figure out that the league is a skater's league now and you need to feel the need for speed! FIRE CHUCK again! Thanks again!
- Phillywhiteout

Speedsters can't play a 200 foot game.
They focused on learn how to shoot for the corners and score.
Not what we are after.

There's no use looking for a rational underpinning to how this team operates, when it's all really just nepotism, emotions and personal loyalties.

Chuck still has a job because Dave Scott and the luminaries like him. Simple as that.

Stevie Y is a fabulous GM that just gets it. He basically built the Bolts and now he is doing the same thing in the motor city. This is why you need thinking man's ex hockey players as your GM (Sakic too) and not goons. FIRE CHUCK! Thanks!

It helps that Yzerman made a living as a cerebral hockey player. And the Wings played a cerebral brand of hockey over the years.

Bullies, on the other hand, aren't exactly known for their brains.

The baffling part is how can anyone in the building think he is doing a good job or even average job.

When you're fond of somebody, you'll make all types of excuses for them.

I'm sure they feel like Chuck's just been shafted by injuries and the team he built will turn it all around if they can stay healthy. Something to that effect.

NO DOUBT they are!

Some dip[poop] is sitting there thinking "we are that team that was the best team in the NHL and beat Tampa...but the covid and injuries set us back. We will be right there again if not for our "bad luck" again."
