Well Habs are in rebuild mode and getting rid of the many bad contracts we have left.

Just by the end of the year, we'll have Drouin, Dadonov, Byron and Allen off the books. That's over 15M in cap space to spend on the future like Caufield. So despite the albatross of the Price contract, they'll be fine when they're ready to win again.

Leafs are targeted as being in "cap hell" because they keep moves intending to make them finally cross the first round with whatever wiggle room they have left because they have 3 players paid over 10M. They also had to get rid of good/decent players just because they couldn't afford giving them slight raises (like Brown, Kapanen, Johansson).

And it's just fun to SLAF at the Leafs from time to time.

I was posting somewhat in jest but me ringing the bell and a Habs fan being first the first to respond confirms what we all know....The Leafs are indeed the centre of the hockey universe, centre of all things hockey in Canada and live rent free in the melons of all other fan bases.

Yes I'm kidding!!!

I was aware of all the $ coming off the books for the Habs but it still doesn't change the fact they may have overpaid Motobike Boy (time will tell) and I believe they will take the same gamble on Caufield and time will also tell if his true nickname will be Goal Caufield or Cold Caufield. No offense but I'm really hoping he earns the nick name Cold Caulfield and we get to see a new website "Did Cold Caufield Score Tonight?" pop up! lol

The comment about losing good/decent players is a bit laughable to me considering of those 3 only Brown has been really good plus every good/competative team ends up losing those types of players - see Tampa Bay losing an entire line's worth as example one. And yes, they won a cup and the Leafs didn't - that doesn't change the fact to have sustained good and competative teams a seemingly fairly consistent flow of players in the bottom 6 happens because when those guys win they demand/deserve more $ and often that winning team can't afford them anymore.

It will be interesting to see how patient the Habs fanbase is if they really have a crummy year this year - traditionally they haven't been known to be happy with a losing team and I think last year they accepted it with Weber and Price's injuries and the chance to draft 1st overall.

Us Leaf fans are seasoned vets when it comes to years of terrible teams - thanks to old Harold.

I think what Habs fans could never tolerate was a team that was supposed to compete but didn't.

I don't hear many people complaining about finally doing a proper rebuild because the plan is clear.

And we're gonna be terrible again this year.... maybe less terrible but still bad.

Oh and I know losing the players I mentionned didn't sink the Leafs or anything.... but they are still players the Leafs would have kept if not for cap difficulties.

Motobike boy, that's a good one.

Kadri: The Boy Inside The Man
Posted 12:14 PM ET | Comments 4
On a hot, sweltering Toronto afternoon, I meet up with the Leafs 2009 top pick Nazem Kadri. This was the 2nd time I have met the young budding star and to say I was surprised is putting it mildly. The first time I met Nazem was September 2009, a scrawny young kid listed at 170lbs. I doubted he'd tip 165 in a wet suit when I first met him. This time around I was blown away. Maybe it was the heat, or maybe it was just the excitement of seeing this rising young star again at the beginning of his career. He had obviously started to fill out, and the results of all his hard work at the gym were more than evident. I bit my lip and thought to myself "Oh to be 19 again". What was once scrawny was now filled out and buff. Muscles rippled, pecs stood out, the face of the young lad had started to turn into that of a man. He sensed my shock when I saw him and greeted him.

"Wow", I say. "You're not how I remember"
Kadri giggles nervously and replies "Yeah, it's taken a lot of hard work".

I must have stared a moment too long because he seems to get nervous just then and suggests we move on and get the interview under way. I forget he's still a boy even though he's looking more and more like a man. I offer to buy him a smoothie from the Papaya Hut in downtown Toronto but he tells me he's on a strict diet. I grab my smoothie, and we leisurely stroll down Yonge St. and discuss his potential to make the Leafs this season.

Kadri is realistic about his chances this upcoming season and knows he has a tremendous opportunity if he works hard. He tells me it's been his dream since he was a kid to make the NHL and the opportunity presented by the Leafs is one he doesn't want to miss out on.

"We have a young core of players here in Toronto, the youngest in the league, I just hope I can show enough at camp to stick with the big club". Kadri has been penciled into the Leafs lineup by many observers but he knows it won't be that easy. "Last season was tough. I really thought I could stick in the NHL, but I realized later on that I still had a ways to go. I set out to improve myself and my game in hopes of making it this season"

The willingness and the ability to improve are two strong traits in this young man. After a slow start to the OHL season, Kadri picked up the pace to finish with 93 points in only 56 games and was named as a finalist for OHL player of the year. He continuted his strong play into the playoffs where he netted an incredible 27 points in only 12 games. These are stats that should get any Leafs fan excited about this young man's potential.

We briefly chat about his muslim upbringing and how he is being viewed as a potential role model in the league, a barrier smasher so to speak.
"I don't think about that stuff", replies Kadri, "I'm just me, I try to be the best I can be, if I inspire any other kids that's great, but I don't see myself as anything special in that regard".

I tell him he IS special, and he nervously accepts my compliment.

As we end the interview, I watch him walk away from me, I gaze and think about the future of this young star, this mere boy who is now filling out a man's body. The heat from the afternoon has coated Kadri's shirt in sweat, and I can easily make out the physique under his shirt. I still can't believe how much he's filled out, and I have to finally turn away as I bite my lip again.

I can't see into the future, but I predict great things for Kadri. Leafs fans should prepare themselves for success, with Kadri on a young Leafs team, the future is oh so bright.

Anyone else feel like this article has a bit of a "why would you write that" vibe to it?
I was just thinking how much outrage there may have been if this was a male reporter writing the article about a female athlete, perhaps less so based on when it was written but still.

Oh and I keep seeing stories (rumours) that Nate the Great is apparently saying he wants to be the highest paid player in the league on his next contract? I don't imagine that is the correct quote at all but I could see it having been something like him saying he wants to be paid with the guys at that level becaue he is there too (which he is) so when he is up for his deal it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

If the Habs management staff steal a bit of a Babcockian approach and say up front "pain is coming" the fanbase may be ok with it. I could see another year of bad being accepted but I don't see 3 being ok but time will tell.

Motobike boy is just too easy with a last name like that and I have to think he's been chirped at some point in his career about it. lol

how much are you responsible to pay to get the truck fixed?
- dmnted

It’s a work crew truck lease, so company will pay the deductible of $500

Issue is that there isn’t spare parts available yet, so over 1 month delay to get parts

And for the record….. the 🦌 hit me!

That could be made up, or someone stirring the pot although there certainly is a lot of smoke around the story. MacKinnon has said numerous times in the past that he was willing to take a discount to help the team win. Although with Makar getting $9.5, he should be making noticeably more than that.

Agreed on both points, it sounds very made up but now that a cup has been won and he sees what Makar is getting as you you can't imagine he isn't thinking he needs to get more but it could also be his agent starting the chatter early and in his ear telling him he's worth so much more.

Imagine if he decides to go test free agency?
