I think this offseason's been the worst one in a while...and there's certainly plenty of competition for that distinction. That said, I don't think missing out on Kadri contributes to it being a bad offseason. I never understood paying a premium for the only position this team is set at, and then making room for it by shipping out a good winger like Beau, weakening the position that's the greatest area of need. I'm actually relieved it didn't happen so we don't have to see a Nelson/wing experiment part 2 or something like that.

All true.
Perhaps I’m just overly optimistic, but I feel like the Kadri signing is gonna open some doors on other opportunities. - Wildschwein
The problem is they don't have any assets to trade. Bellows, Dobson, Romanov, Greene and Milano will be the signings

I assume we offered him the same and he chose Calgary. Amazing how Calgary lost two of their best players and will still compete next season. Have to give them credit. I certainly don’t like kadri’s contract, wouldn’t have like if he wanted to come here, but in the short term they will have a good team. That’s after losing Tkachuk and Gaudreau - Cptmjl
Technically, they only lost one but admittedly Tkachuk put them in a tough spot. To get Huberdeau was a nice sweetener.
But, you guys are hitting the mail on the head. Are we just expecting Beau to score 25, Wahlstrom to score 30 and Bellows and Bailey to score 20 each? Does Palmieri score 10 or 30? There are way too many uncertainties here. We also have zero depth if we have injuries. |

Well the only other UFA that's been entirely radio-silent up to this point is Sonny Milano.
I'd like to sign him and it'd be fun to have a homegrown LI player on the team, but that's also not the kind of upgrade that I think anyone was hoping for. |

Arguably so.
Still, I just can’t help but feel positive today. In my mind at least, the organization dodged a huge bullet this morning. 🤷♂️ |

True.
Now that Kadri is off the board though, me thinks some things will start happening. |

Putting this comment aside....
On one hand I'm happy that Lou didn't commit 7 years and big money to a 32 year old.
On the other hand, I'm beyond confused as to what the plan is going forward here - eichiefs9
Keep what they have. Let them prove they aren’t the team they were last year under Lambert. If they play well look to add during the season or TDL. If they suck ass then they hold on to their young assets and picks and look to rebuild.
Makes sense as the only deal he did make was for a young player.
I think LL wasn’t sold on the excuses last year and doesn’t want to trade the future for today unless it makes sense. The team has to prove themselves before he does that imho. |

100%. I would have been furious with 7 years. That is horrible term for 32 yr old. |

If I said it once I’ll say it again defense and goaltending win cups. The islanders will be fine. Sorokin will have a stellar year and our defense will be better. Plus adding Raty will help so much |

"Let's wait and see if we stink or not" is not exactly the kind of plan that inspires hope among fans |

Well they better play well or this team will be much different in 23-24. |

I agree with this 100%. There is not much difference between signing a player to an egregious contract and having to trade good players to fit said contract than just trading for the player(s) you want. You're still likely going to need to lose a good player or two. |

Nah. Missing out on Panarin hurt MUCH worse. |
