If we have legitimate holes on defense that is a huge problem. This team should be fine with Romanov in the top 4 and Salo as 6th dman if necessary. Offense is the much bigger concern. I have no doubt Lou wants to improve the team but he is in a tough spot. - ses111
If it would’ve been Kadri then Chara or Greene and that’s it I wouldn’t have liked it. If you’re going to go for it really go for it. Don’t half arse it. I like the idea of tarasenko, always have. Would’ve been a better add then Kadri imo. Not sure if that’s even a real option or if Lou is even thinking that way but it can’t stop there if it is. If it isn’t just hold onto what we have and add a legit bottom pairing defenseman that’s not named Chara or Greene and call it a day.

Plenty of adequate bottom pair LD still on the market.
Murray, Beaulieu, de Haan and Harrington come to mind.

It's been said many times but if Lou is in go for it mode you cannot tell by this offseason. Lou's age alone tells us he is not looking to rebuild and the lack of moves at the trade deadline as well. It's very hard to be in win now mode and continue to miss on quality FA's though. That means trades and it's hard for the Isles to make the impact trade without quality prospects to move.

I believe he has been in on probably everything but hasn’t been able to make anything happen for multiple reasons.
Even as bad as they were last year they still made a run with an old run down team. People don’t get it. Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make - kasperrko
Im not very optimistic that icing the same team from last year is a wise decision. I just looked at their schedule results from last season. They were 5-6-2 after the “brutal” 13 game road trip. Not bad actually. The problem was they lost the next 5 home games. Even before the two week Covid break, they were still 10-12-6 on Jan 1st. Again, not bad. The problem was they never made a run and basically played .500 hockey for the remainder of the season. Their longest win streak was 4 games and that happens in late March when they were all but out of it. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not overly optimistic about the current team structure.
The problem is that, while a lot of that is true, nearly every single team in our division has gotten much better.
CAR added Patches and Burns
NYR added Trochek
WSH added Brown and D. Strome
CBJ added Gaudreau
NJD added Palat and Vanacek - eichiefs9
While NJD and CBJ certainly got better..
Carolina lost Trochek, Nino, Max Domi, Ian Cole, Brendan Smith, and Tony D, and Patches is going to be out a long time... Burns is certainly a great add but not sure how much better they got.. possibly got a little tougher.
Rangers added Trochek ... lost Strome, Giorgieve, Motte, Vatrano, Copp, Rooney, etc. ... not sure they got better.
Caps .. Adding Kuemper is big for sure, might lose Backstrom though and they are oldest team in league.. we'll see.

I am with you on this. Also have to factor in the improvements the division has made. The progression of teams like the Rangers. With that said after we lost Tavares I didn’t expect this team to do squat.
We really need one of Wahlstrom or bellows to excel. Romanov to have a career year. While keeping a healthy lineup because we really have no depth. It would have to be an all the stars in line kind of situation imo. Possible but certainly not the way you want to go into a season imo.

A lot of this points to why Lou felt Trotz might have lost the team a bit. I am always hopeful before the season but if they start as poorly as they did last year I will agree.... we had a lot of guys who played terrible for the first couple of months. Varly, Chara, Palms, and a bunch of others were just terrible. Hopefully they figure it out.
