He did add a d man which was his first objective and I think the team will be better for it. You don’t?
- nyisles7

If that's what he meant, and that's what he really believes puts the team over the top, then no, I don't agree with that. Hey, I'm rooting for me to be wrong again! But I think it's hard to spin this offseason (so far) into a totally according-to-plan success.

Me too. The upcoming season looks like more of last year, except that a new coach will be tested. It will be interesting to see if he can squeeze better hockey out of these guys............but I'm not optimistic.

Then again, after two non-playoff seasons, we lost our all-star captain for nothing. How did Lou respond? He signed (or traded for) Matt Martin, Leo Komarov and Valterri Filppula. I was sure Lou had lost his marbles, and the team was doomed for years to come. So there is at least some basis for the idea that I do not know as much as Lou.

Jesus titty (frank)ing christ…

Long story short -
If CGY picks 20-32 in 2024, Habs can choose that pick.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and both are out of the top 10, MTL gets the best
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and CGY is in the top 10, MTL gets FLA's.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026, MTL gets CGY's 1st in 2025 unless it's 1st overall
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026 and CGY picks 1st in 2025, MTL gets the best of the 2 first picks in 2026.

Is what I understand. There's also 3rd and 4th rounders involved but who cares.

CGY will get FLA's 2025 1st pick, unless it wins a lottery, in which case it defaults to 2026.

I believe that this offseason is far worst then when John Tavares left. Because of the position of the team and how close they are. And everyones expectation.

So I’m guessing you think they will be worse this year?
What if he doesn’t think there’s a quick fix to put the team over the top? It wouldn’t be hard to believe after last year’s performance. Now with Trotz being gone and Lambert , (yes qualified but still rookie head coach) in charge. It would make some sense that Lou’s not all in on trading assets for that player that puts us over the top when in fact said player may not. Of course there’s no guarantees on getting that player ( Goring) but I think you have to be totally convinced it can happen before you do that. I think looking back at the JGP trade Lou felt quit confident in the team he had. Again after last year and other factors he may not be that confident and may want to see how this team performs under LL before he purges the future foolishly.
Just my opinion of course.

They didn’t even make the PO’s last year how could you feel confident that next season will be the one. Obviously if you look at results, last off season was terrible looking at the teams non playoff season. Just my opinion of course.

Hopefully it’s a foreshadowing of the season to come with this years terrible off season.

I’m usually negative but I don’t know. I’ve seen this team get to the ECF twice. I’ve seen this team never give up. I’ve seen sorokin make some unbelievable saves and have a lot of shutouts even with Chara and Greene in the line up. I believe the team will get younger with Raty and play a little bit of a different style. They have a team that if they play right can shut down anybodys offense. I don’t know why people are flipping out for. If we go deep in the playoffs then no one will say anything. We been under dogs basically all the ti e and we proved everyone wrong. Give them a chance with a new coach and better defense

Well deep runs in the POs mean nothing apparently

Seriously though I think the team will be better this year and make the POs. As a group they have something to prove. I’m with you.

Even as bad as they were last year they still made a run with an old run down team. People don’t get it. Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make

Sometimes they are. Certainly haven’t mortgaged the future this off season. Yet. We’ll see what, if any, moves Lou makes.

The problem is the teams around the Islanders have improved. When the Islanders made their two long playoff runs, these were not the full regular season games. Islanders have to prove that can get through a long season and then the playoffs. I think the Islanders are in good shape in goal and defense but the offense is a concern.

That they will but it's a mistake to live off the past long playoff runs as they happened under very unique situations.

Of course there’s some truth to this but we have legitimate holes on defense that have to be filled. Unless we’re hoping some kid to take a giant leap forward this season we also need some help up front. Barring some teams taking a step back this season it’s going to be tough to compete in our division with our current lineup imo. I think Lou is trying to find a way to improve the team still. But like I’ve been saying I’m not sure if he’ll be able too.

If we have legitimate holes on defense that is a huge problem. This team should be fine with Romanov in the top 4 and Salo as 6th dman if necessary. Offense is the much bigger concern. I have no doubt Lou wants to improve the team but he is in a tough spot.
