The major difference is contract, not the players. Chychrun is on an incredibly good contract - ifiwasgm
Chychrun does have a good contract for the next 2 years but the 3rd he’s owed $7 million. I’m not saying I watch a ton of coyotes games but definitely a few and I personally don’t see a $7 million dollar D. Nylanders outperforms his contract imho and is only owed $8.5 for the next 2 years. Chychrun actually makes more then Nylander over the next 2 years, in real money. Chychrun does have a nice cap hit though at only $4.6 compared to Nylanders $6.93 but not good enough for a one for one trade |

I could see a three way deal.
Nylander going to a third party, Chychrun to the Leafs and the third party sending picks and prospects to AZ.
Nylander = Chychrun in value, IMO, but the salary tips the scale. With a third party that has cap space but in need of scoring this could work. Does such a team exist? Ottawa maybe? |

Any other reports we have read say Yotes are only interested in picks and prospects. Something could work if a 3rd team was involved but why would the Bolts have any interest in Nylander when they are in full tanking mode and have no interest in winning any games until the Bedard is taking a regular shift. - spatso
The Bolts are tanking? Aren't they coming off their 3rd consecutive Finals appearance? |

So, in terms of value, what would a team give up for Willie? I doubt they would pay the equivalent of what ARI was asking for. Not that they would get it, but the ask was the equivalent of 4 x 1st round talent. Not just picks, but player, prospect, and picks. |

Only way I can see the deal is if there is a salary dump along with Nylander because Nylander is a better, more impactful player on a relatively good contract. So something like Nylander, Holl, Kerfoot and a 1st for Chychrun, Crouse and a 3rd
But I think the Leafs should hold onto Nylander to get one of Gibson or Hellybuck. Because unless Matt Murray gets out of his head, Leafs are gonna need a goalie to go anywhere in the playoffs. |

So funny that Leafs fans are always so clueless. Live and breathe hockey and yet are almost to close to it that they can’t see the forest, because of the trees.
Here’s the reality: Chychrun play and contract is reasonably worth one high end first round pick or prospect, two mid tier first rounders/prospects and something like a second round pick.
AZ would NEVER ice Nylander because they are trying to tank. So it’s an obvious three way trade.
Nylander is a winger playing with some of the best players in the league…he’s not as valuable as leafs fans think. He’s probably worth 2 mid round first picks, or 1 high pick and 2nd rounder.
So reasonably: Nylander nets a high first rounder and a second rounder. Maple leafs include their first round pick, And Knies.
Total net to Coyotes is top 10 pick, Knies, late first round pick and an early second round pick.
Toronto will be better for it and Coyotes get what they want. |

Teams like the Leafs don't care about salary. MLSE has a license to print money.
It's the Cap-hit that counts.

Trading Nylander for Chychryn is stupid. ARZ overplayed their hand, thinking teams would overpay, but there is a reason nobody has come close to acquiring him. It is because while Chych has potential he's proven nothing, and entering his prime is still best suited for a 3-4D role.
Why would any team trade a 70-85 point young winger for that? If anything ARZ would need to send something back to TOR to make that happen.
More likely would be Liljegren + Sandin + 1st FOR Chychrun and 50% retained salary ($2.3M /year).

Chychrun’s advanced stats GSVA is 1.3 (The Athletic calculates his value as $5.9m/season). Nylander is 2.7 GSVA (market value of $9.8m). There is NO WAY Dubas or any other GM would trade Nylander for Chychrun. They don’t need an offensive defenceman with Rielly and Sandin and Chychrun’s defensive metrics are all around league average or worse. This rumour is not based on actual Toronto interest. |

It's ridiculous anyway, Nylander and a 1st plus plus will get you better than Chychrun. |

The Leafs have already given up a lot of assets in bringing in Muzzin,Barrie and Giordano. They have also lost some quality depth up front the past several years. I think a Chychrun trade would set them even more back. |
