That's worst case scenario. Some teachers take half years off, so after the first 100 work days they need to fill spots.
Also, another scam is a teacher will come in, work 2 weeks then claim burn out/med leave. Very popular with the olds. |

My friend's cousin is a teacher and he did it twice in his career. Basically you get your salary cut for a few years and still get paid in your half year as if you were working.
...and yes, your job waits for you when you get back. Obviously, that doesn't work if you are on a contract. |

I think it's at a reduced salary, but I believe some $ gets taken out of their pension. What's worse is a teacher can claim BO, a teacher takes their workload and once the teachers feels better, they're back in and can happen with little warning.
You have to notify the board of your plan to take a sabbatical in advance. Usually, the teacher is not paid, but they will hold 20% of their pay for a few years then take the held money during their time off. And yes, they will still have their spot. |

Our board had a guy who hit a kid and was on paid admin leave for ~3 years. They gave him a package to retire |

Ah yes, the "congés à traitements différés".
Those are (frank)ing awesome.
Fun fact, in the public health system, they can take the paid 6 months off BEFORE their salaries are cut.
If they leave before they pay their dept, we have to hire lawyers to run after them and collect the money.... which we end up not doing half the time because the cost of the Lawyers end up being more than the money we'd get back.
yeah..... fun....

Why take a decision when you can just wait until people have calmed down and pay to make it go away?

how long does it take for a teacher to reach emperor status?
idk, it sure seems like a system that encourages unmotivated educators.
gotta admit it does give me a new appreciation for 90% of the teachers I had over the years. |
